Rachel Maddow calls out 'conservadems' after spotting Ben Nelson cheering republican Cain
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 08:36 AM by bigtree
from HuffPo:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/19/rachel-maddow-conservadem-ben-nelson_n_1019246.html

Rachel Maddow tore into several conservative Democrats on her Tuesday show, scolding them for what she saw as their dangerous undermining of their own party.

Maddow began by playing the now-legendary video of Herman Cain singing "Imagine There's No Pizza." Citing Talking Points Memo, which analyzed this video with a far more discerning eye than others, Maddow froze the footage on a man who was cheering the Republican presidential nominee as he sang about trying to imagine a world without pizza and just tacos.

"There. Do you see who that is?" Maddow said. "Politics geeks of the world, do you see who that is, standing and enthusiastically cheering on Herman Cain?" It turns out it was Ben Nelson — now a Democratic senator from Nebraska, but at the time, the governor of that state. (Maddow had a different way of putting it, calling Nelson a "sort-of" Democrat.)

Maddow pointed out that Nelson has been making headlines for being one of two Democrats in the Senate who voted against President Obama's jobs bill as a whole last week. Maddow labeled Nelson and Montana Senator Jon Tester as being "Conservadems," Maddow's term for Democrats who "always try to get ahead by trashing their own party." Maddow said that Nelson and Tester were suspected to vote against Obama's jobs bill again . . .

Maddow criticized these Senators for voting against Obama's jobs bill and said, "...Conservadems like Jon Tester, and Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman are siding with the Republican Senators who are siding with no voters, not even their own, and who are siding against firefighters and against cops and against teachers."

He is just a wavering RepubliDem with a lameass toupee, who has wobbled so pathetically that virtually everyone sneers at him.

As for his re-election chances:

2. This is the wing of the party that squandered President Obama's political capital.
By throwing roadblocks in the way, they delayed getting anything done and letting opportunity for real progress drip away like an open wound.

3. Seems to me they are ALL very good friends
they are in a very select group and we are not a part of that group. They need us at election time, and they sometimes pay us lip service. That's my view of it.

Don't clap for the guy with the great voice and sense of humor because they will be running for the Republican nomination in the future?

Isn't that pretty petty?

5. I don't understand what Ben Nelson gets out of calling
himself a democrat,it's not as if it would be impossible to get elected in Nebraska as the republican that he is. He needs to go over to his real party (the GOP) and quit calling himself a democrat.

6. I call as "Conservadems"...
People that support wars and killing when a Democrat does them.

People that support slashing social services such as financial assistance for low income people so they can stay warm.

People that have no internal compass for their positions but adjust them based on where the "other side" stands.

8. Criticize Ben Nelson, but not for cheering a humorous song ten years ago
The fact that Nelson was in that room for the Press Club event ten years ago, and he clapped when then-CEO of Godfather's Pizza Herman Cain did a funny gospel version of 'Imagine,' is not the reason to criticize Nelson. There was nothing wrong with that, and Cain was not even in politics then.

I've been criticizing Ben Nelson vociferously for at least a decade, but I'm afraid the context in which Rachel framed this was misleading and only makes it seem like we should criticize Nelson because he clapped for a (now) Republican candidate. That's what I call red-meat journalism. The time to have called out Nelson (this time) was when he actually voted against the jobs bill more than a week ago.

9. I'll take any excuse to criticize Nelson.
He's a used piece of asswipe who is a roadblock to progressive change.
