OH Exotic Animal Escape: Gov Kasich allowed Executive Order regulating them to Expire
Sheriff: Owner of escaped exotic animals opened cages, then committed suicide
Authorities believe three animals remain on the loose in Muskingum County

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Authorities in Muskingum County say they have recovered most of the exotic animals that were running loose since they were set free, apparently by their owner, last night.

The owner of the exotic animal farm, Terry Thompson, was found dead yesterday in his house. Sheriff Matt Lutz said Thompson apparently opened the cages to release all of the animals, then committed suicide. He wouldn't say how Thompson killed himself. He did say the body was "bothered" by the animals.

Ohio has no rules regulating the sale and ownership of exotic animals.

Former Gov. Ted Strickland had attempted to enforce such a law, but Gov. John Kasich allowed an executive order to expire.

3. Agree. It's not far from Hocking HIlls. If they make it there it will be very hard
to locate.

2. btw the man who released the animals was a convicted felon (machine guns):
from the Cols Dispatch:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives had raided Thompson’s Kopchak Road property in June 2008, seizing more than 100 guns. In April 2010, Thompson pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Columbus to two federal charges: possession of a machine gun and possession of short firearms without serial numbers.

4. I think this story has to do with the lack of regulations.
This should have never been allowed to happen!

5. An outrage. More Rethug deregulation. And probably a nice campaign contribution to boot.
A sad and unnecessary story. Couldn't they have been sedated?

They had no chance ultimately, anyway.

6. Kasich is an animal
Actually no, I take that back. I regard those creatures with more acknowledgement and respect than I do trash like Kasich. Far more.
