Chen Xianmei gives her reward over for the medical care of the two year old she rescued.

Taken aback by all the offers of financial support, Chen has asked the public not to send her any more money but to send all donations to Yueyue's family instead. She has pledged some of her reward money from the Civilisation Offices to Yueyue.

She has been the subject of increasing bitterness and attacks from others saying she was seeking fame and money when she rescued the child. What appalling and dangerous cynicism.

"A lot of people are now saying that I'm doing it to get famous, and to get money. Even my neighbours are now saying so!" she said. "That really wasn't my intention, and I'm so afraid of hearing what people are saying that I don't dare to watch the news. I'm not out for fame or money."

When asked what she thought about the negative things that people were now saying about her, Chen said, "I didn't steal or rob. All I did was to save a child," as tears began to fill her eyes.

Would she do it all over again, having suffered these unnecessary grievances? "Yes, I would!" she replied without hesitation.

She says she just wants to return to her normal life. I do hope that her good deed does not get lost in the whirlwind and that the rewards that come to her are of a nature that enriches her, especially in the less obvious ways. I hope that the goodness in her is not cowed like it seems to have been in so many involved in this situation.

1. Impuging the motives of anyone doing a good deed seems to be a universal trait
of humankind. It must suck to do something good, then catch a lot grief for it. Really reinforces the wrong kind of behavior in our species.

2. And it is such a self destructive trait.
It really boggles the mind.

3. Even this publicity over the money she received may do some good ...

passerby's may stampede to get to the next victim because of it.

I wasn't aware the little girl was still alive! Wouldn't it be amazing if she fully recovered.

"Yueyue's mother has appeared on Sina Weibo herself to clarify the situation. She said that while Yueyue was still unable to breathe on her own, her situation has stabilised, and she has regained some sensation in her limbs. Doctors say that her chances of recovery are now better than earlier estimated." http://shanghaiist.com/2011/10/17/foshan_toddler_yueyue_still_under_i.php

4. Sadly, recent reports say that the little one is not doing well.
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 01:24 PM by FedUpWithIt All
The hospital published her latest CT scan result yesterday, which showed life-threatening diffusive brain swelling. Moreover, the girl's brain stem reflexes were absent and her pupillary reaction to light disappeared yesterday.

"She didn't show any improvement today," Xie Yinlong, a media coordination official with the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command where the girl is treated, said yesterday.

I do hope you are right about the long term changes that might happen.

7. Apparently, in 2001 she even turned over 100,000 yuan she had found, in spite of her own poverty.

She is already rich in the things that matter the most.
