Woman gets apology for 'humiliating' airport screening
http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews//20110114/calgary-aiport-woman-screened-apology-110114/

An 82-year-old cancer survivor has received an apology from the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, after she underwent a "humiliating" body scan at the Calgary airport.
<...>
"I didn't think I had to tell the whole world I had a mastectomy," Strecker told CTV News.

She said that when the scanner revealed her prosthesis, security personnel accused her of lying and searched her by hand.
<...>
Officials are reviewing surveillance video of the screening, but the footage does not have audio. They are also waiting for Strecker to file an official complaint.

One down, millions to go. When they have to call Granny a liar and search her breast-cancer prosthesis, either our countries have made too many enemies or the paranoia has gotten absolutely ridiculous.

1. For one horrifying moment I thought this might be the US TSA apologizing..
Glad to know that our record of overweening arrogance is unblemished.

2. So, my wife said....
.....when I go thru security at the airport, I should stick a sweet potato down my pants and see how the gals in security fight to see which one gets to pat me down. To my surprise, when I passed thru the scanner, they let me go on my way. She didn't tell me to stick it down the FRONT of my pants!

(okay, that's an old joke, but it fits)

3. Screening experience
One of my students is a Swedish guy of Iranian decent, who always seems to get stopped for screening, sometimes questioned for hours with missed flights as a consequence. However, after growing a beard and wearing a Castro t-shirt, those harassments seem to have stopped.
