NY Post: Protesters Dine In Style - Enjoying Rich Diet |
|
(I trust y'all will forgive the implicit snark in this story - it's from the NY Post (Murdoch-owned, you know) after all)http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/occu_pie_the_kitchen_PIZ7EsDJEZqzPgzzEWKX7I(snip) They may sleep in the park, but they eat like kings.
Hundreds of grimy protesters laying siege to Wall Street and stuffed into the now-smelly Zuccotti Park dine each night on gourmet meals prepared by a former hotel chef using only the finest organic ingredients.(snip) “We’re running a five-star restaurant down there,’’ crowed Eric Smith, 38, the ex-le Chef de Tournant at the Sheraton in Midtown, who works out of a soup kitchen in East New York, Brooklyn, churning out the meals for more than 1,000 protesters every day.
“The other day, we made some wonderful salmon cakes with dill sauce and some quinoa salad and a wonderful tomato salad with fennel and red onion,’’ he said.
“We use organic, grass-fed meats, and the other day, we made a wonderful fried rice and root vegetables and all kinds of soup.”
So last night, for example, while your family of four may have been forced to resort to Hamburger Helper, thanks to Smith’s culinary magic, hordes of Occupy Wall Street protesters instead feasted on organic chicken, spaghetti Bolognese, roasted beet and sheep’s milk-cheese salad and wild heirloom potatoes.
Most of the produce, grass-fed meat and organic chicken is donated from small organic farms upstate, including Northland Sheep Dairy, West Haven Farm and Wide Awake Bakery in Ithaca, and several farms in Connecticut and Vermont.(snip) (For more laughs, scroll down the link to the readers comments)http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/occu_pie_the_kitchen_PIZ7EsDJEZqzPgzzEWKX7I

Looks like some trolls at DU don't like this. :D
Bravo to Chef Smith, all who help him, and those donating the ingredients he's cooking with!

People sleeping on the ground in tents, and living without full shower facilities -- yes, they might get grimy and parts of the park may get smelly, and yes, they ARE bravely "laying siege" to Wall Street.
That sounds like reality under the circumstances. It in no way detracts from the great thing they're doing, the sacrifices they're making, and the fact that they deserve and appreciate any great meals that are served.

17. Please.. it's written in a way to portray the protesters |
|
in a bad light. Period.
I understand the praise for the people feeding all these folks but this article is a joke. It was not written to praise anyone it was written to make fun of the protests and the protesters.
But hey go ahead and rec it, no skin off my nose.

9. I see what you mean about the comments. |
|
They all seem to believe OWS is a conspiracy between George Soros, President Obama and a bunch of caviar eating Marxists whose only real goal is to steal from the rich and continue to live it up in mom's basement.
I loved the one guy who made it his business to climb the wall of idiocy by himself and rebut every single ignorant, made up talking point. Way to go dude!

11. I guess they don't understand democracy. They protest, while we (who can) get them food |
|
We donate, and the meals get passed on to the front lines.
And they don't have to disperse.
AND this is helping the economy more than anything a CORPORATION would do...

18. Gosh, maybe they'd be happier with gourmet pizza, like the WI demonstrators |
|
who managed to get donated food delivered to them.
I don't begrudge the protesters one single piece of donated food, ever! They are "donating" their lives (and livelihoods!) to the protest. If they occasionally get something gourmet donated, more power to them! I'd speculate that they mostly get grunge food for the most part, and are living pretty basically.
