Lawrence O'Donnell demoted...Why?
East Coasters - please indulge the unforgiveable sin of converting to Pacific Time but...

Lawrence on at 7 instead of 5? That's horrible. Before I could just come home from work and forward through the commercials. Now I might have to watch live. Oh wait...maybe I just answered my own Q.

1. Could be because of his rant against Bill Clinton serenaded by Lady Gaga?
He was presuming to talk for Bill and Hillary. He said it was embarrassing.

He doesn't know what Bill Clinton thinks. I died laughing when Bill said "I thought i was gonna have a heart attack!" ROFL!

He then got Jonathan Alter on his show to make prudish noises about how awful the blow job and the scandal was back in the 1990s, and also, due to laziness or a lack of imagination, compare it to Marilyn Monroe serenading John F. Kennedy. The media always want to put things in the framework of the past or some dead movie star they recycle. This is not the same as learning from history; it is just pure laziness.

I posted my responses in the thread titled "rolled up newspaper to Big Dog".

he did not mention that the concert was a BIG charity fundraiser at the Hollywood Bowl for the Clinton Foundation. He doesn't realize that Lady Gaga is the number one star at the moment and they raised millions for a worthy cause!! Earthquake relief in Haiti, fighting AIDS/HIV in Africa, etc.

My opinion of Larry went down a whole lot after that segment on Monday night.

3. Oh Wow...didn't know that happened
I've been traveling. That would make sense though. He is also really out of touch with non-political issues like sports and music too, just to pile on.

6. I thought he sucked!
I quit watching a long time ago. Setting aside his condescending delivery, his show was always dark. By that I mean depressing and uncomfortable to watch. Ed pisses me off like no other at times (as many of you already know) but Ed has a lock on the labor movement, so good for him and MSNBC.

It really does not matter though, I am super happy to see that Current is building a blockbuster lineup. Hopefully it will help pull all the other networks back to the center.

13. What's the lineup that Current is building?
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 04:40 AM by ObaMania
Other than adding Cenk?

Would be nice if this was on regular cable. It's not available on limited basic with Comcrap.

16. Cenk at 7pm -- Keith at 8pm -- Jennifer Granholm at 9pm
needless to say i'd choose Rachel at 9 - but Cenk at 7 and Keith at 8pm are perfect IMO. you can watch Current as a livestream from many websites, and Keith is uploaded every night to torrent sites like demonoid and probably to storage sites like rapidshare, megaupload, and filesonic.

11. Ed Schultz has been coming on strong lately...
He's really powerful and passionate on the OWS, union news and Wisconsin. Him being on earlier with a larger audience is a good thing, IMO.

What I like about Lawrence is his background/experience of working on Senate committees and Capitol Hill. His "insider" knowledge...

12. He sucks, that's why
He really stepped on it as a white man criticizing Herman Cain's lack of involvement in the Civil rights movement. Then, his over the top moral outrage at Lady Gaga's "Marilyn Moment". Not to mention he is just boring and and trips over his words a lot. And why would they ever put a show called "The Last Word" at the beginning of the lineup? It never made any sense at all to me.

15. +1
he's no Keith - that's for sure. Rachel is a VERY smart, independent thinking person. Ed stands for the working man. Lawrence = ex-Clinton insider. you do the math.

Keith is great on Current so I never watch O'Donnell.

17. He was getting ready to ask for a raise?
Because he was beating KO in the same time slot? Just to prove it was not his doing, MSNBC has moved Ed to that spot to prove that anyone can do it? :-)

19. Your Answer Is Right Here:
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/category/ratings

Ratings for the 8pm hour are half what they were a year ago when KO held that time slot. Meanwhile Chicken Noodle Nuze new show with Erin Burnette seems to be drawing some audience away. Originally Lawrence's show was intended for the 10pm hour and maybe this will raise the show's fates. Meanwhile it gives Ed higher profile and the major domos are hoping he can bring his 10pm audience and lure back viewers from elsewhere.

Broadcasting overall is a very unforgiving business...you either bring in the ratings or they'll find someone who can.

21. Well, he just called out the politicians in Washington..

referring to them as hypocrites, for failing to even consider legalizing pot, while many of them drink alcohol almost everyday...

I'm not necessarily saying that's the reason he lost his time slot, but it does give me a new found respect for O'Donnell. Who in the past I've thought of as nothing more than an administration mouthpiece..

22. I thought it was his "How do they sleep at night" rant against marijuana laws:
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell: “I Really Don’t Know How Sleep at Night…Without the Booze.”

Tuesday night, on his program “The Last Word,” Lawrence O’Donnell took an impassioned stance against marijuana prohibition while reporting on the recently released Gallup legalization poll.

O’Donnell, who formerly served as Staff Director of the Senate Finance Committee, notes the disconnect between the public opinion on this issue and policy coming from elected officials.

“In a democracy,” he stated, “we should expect such a dramatic shift in public opinion to be reflected in our public officials, but support for marijuana legalization in the United States Senate…has gone from 0% in 1968 to 0% in 2011.”

O’Donnell then rightfully attacked the Obama Administration’s insistence on keeping marijuana a schedule I substance.
