Rick Scott openly says he will use Race to the Top funds for private enterprise.
He said if there are any strings attached to the money from the federal government, he will refuse it.

This is public taxpayer money. He says he will use it to partner with private enterprise to teach children with disabilities.

I just heard it on the news, and I can't find an article yet.

I doubt Arne will deprive the state of those funds. The report said Florida is only one of four states likely to receive the RTTT funds. Arne's goals have been like Scott's goals in getting privae enterprise involved.

Okay, I just did find this from today (yesterday).

"Florida will reject a federal early learning grant of up to $100 million if it comes with strings attached including any requirement for state funding, Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday.

Scott's warning coincided with the state's application for the grant offered through President Barack Obama's Race to the Top program. It is part of the federal stimulus program that Scott has criticized in the past. Florida is one of only four states eligible for the grants. The others are California, New York and Texas. If approved, the state Office of Early Learning plans to use the funds to partner with private businesses in programs for high-risk children.

Scott, though, said state dollars cannot be used to continue those programs when the federal money runs out.

"To be clear, Florida will only accept these grant dollars if the award comes back with no strings attached," Scott said in a statement."

1. FL taxpayer money already going to private religious schools and others...
who are willing to have pre-kindergarten programs.

These schools get public money. Get the kids when they are young, they say.

3. Ah, VPK
The board at my church began looking into starting a program. Several of us raised a fuss on separation of church and state grounds. Needless to say, we are not doing it.

11. Oh, you are right about that
it is the jeb bush privatize florida plan. I mean that the state of Florida isn't going to get one of the race to the top grants if they are going to be that demanding about how the money will be used. It is a competitive grant, and they are handicapping themselves before evaluation even begins. They won't get the grant.

6. No strings attached from Scott, means there are plenty strings attached! Everything has to be HIS
way, and it's disgusting. I refuse to believe he won when shortly after winning, his approval rating was the lowest for a Gov in the country, if I recall.

Get it here now, or one of a million other designs! http://www.zazzle.com/republicans_2012_keeping_millions_out_of_work_bumper_sticker-128659602907896843?rf=238107662556833486eping_millions_out_of_work_bumper_sticker-128659602907896843?rf=238107662556833486

7. And he demands that no regulations be placed on these businesses.
"The application says Florida will not abide by any additional state spending obligations, now or in the future. Scott also is insisting there be "no requirements for future legislative action, and no government programs that unduly burden state taxpayers and commit state dollars to federal unfunded mandates."

He added that Florida also would not implement the program if new regulations are unexpectedly placed on private businesses."
