GOP Lawmakers Challenge White House on 'Scientific Misconduct'
Source: FoxNews.com

"... Sens. David Vitter, R-La., and James Inhofe, R-Okla., and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., rattled off a slew of questions on what they called "the apparent collapse in the quality of scientific work being conducted at our federal agencies."

..."Specifically, we are concerned with data quality, integrity of methodologies and collection of information, agencies misrepresenting publicly the weight of scientific 'facts,' indefensible representations of scientific conclusions before our federal court system, and our fundamental notions of 'sound' science," they wrote. "We identify in this letter important examples of agency scientific misconduct."

Inhofe spokesman Matt Dempsey told FoxNews.com...

Clearly these 3 are the bastions of scientific thought leadership in the US Congress

1. Until they stop denying evolution and climate change, Republicans have no business commenting here.

3. Vitter, Inhofe, and Issa are the very definition of anti-science....
Hearing them criticize federal scientists is like listening to me, an utter atheist, lecturing the pope on the finer points of catholic dogma, LOL.

11. You probably could lecture the pope
A lot of atheists have a pretty good grasp on teachings of religion.

5. Lot of pot kettle blacking going on here. If they had any actual evidence they would be holding
hearings and hauling the alleged scientific miscreants in to testify. The fact that they chose instead to issue a political "letter" speaks volumes.

6. A new 'Dark Age' for America if the Republicans control Congress?
If these examples of scientific McCarthyism are an example, then the answer is yes!

10. Can any of them even spell 'science'? Here's their list of cripes:
1. deep water oil drilling - shouldn't have been banned
2. formaldehyde - doesn't really have any bad affects
3. water for the delta smelt - California farmers need it more
4. Yucca Mountain - nobody said it was unsafe
5. US and UN sharing info on climate change - unfair

12. This is the next salvo in the Repub's war on science
It's also part of their ongoing strategy to disembowel government. One of the counterpoints to the Republican anti-government agenda is that the government conducts worthwhile science that is in the public interest and public domain owing to the fact that it's taxpayer supported. The Repubs know this and are now trying to plant seeds of doubt on the legitimacy of government science by cherry picking and mis-characterizing a small number of unclear studies or unsettled areas of inquiry.

Fox News, of course, will dutifully give this story plenty of emphasis under their very honorable and neutral "we report, you decide" rubric.

14. This is how they work...
In every campaign, the Republicans figure out where they are weakest, and attack first, so that when the Democrats point out the weakness, it sounds like sour grapes.
George W. did it against Kerry on his war record. Remember the bad-aids at the Republican convention? They attacked Kerry's war record even though he was a decorated hero, to keep the heat off of Bush's repeated efforts to avoid even the service he had signed up for.
Republicans lose on climate change and evolution and every other science-based issue unless they can kill the issue first.

15. Aren't these guys tired of having their heads up their
asses? This will just turn out like Issa's investigation into the cause of the economic collapse. He set out to prove it was Fanny and Freddie and when he didn't like the direction the investigation was going (proving we were right and it was the banking institutions, mortgage writers, appraisers etc.)so he shut it down.

That's why they each keep track of their own ass by leaving their head stuck up inside it.
