Norm Grimsley: Uncertainty underlines protest movement

Oct. 20, 2011, 10:14 am

Published in The Daily Journal Oct. 13, 2011

<snip>This is where I got confused. Is it not an American's right to protest conditions they may think are wrong and harmful? Who is this person deciding what is American or not? It made me think back when everyone who disliked the people in power were considered communists. How easy it is to call a group of people un-American, especially when you have money, power and the platform of running for president.

At first I thought the protesters were "Mad as hell and weren't going to take it any more." But now I feel that is wrong. I now think the people are saying, we are scared and we need help. How can I get a job? How will my child go to college? Will we be able to take care of ourselves when we retire?

They're not asking for money, handouts or favors, just a fair chance to make a living like all true Americans.

1. Cool. A fleeting moment of compassion and reason from the other side.
It should be commended and appreciated when it finally does happen.

Thanks for this.

2. Well he is correct saying
That people are scared and they have been scared for a long time now. It just a fact of humanity that when people get uncomfortable enough, or in enough pain, then they will do something to change things. I think that is what we are seeing now.

3. OWS has the possibility of making even the dullest think
and then maybe a light bulb or two will turn on.
