SF Chronicle reports "
Suspect in power drill attack was out on bail": 57-year-old San Francisco resident Kevin Guerin was out on $150,000 bail after being arrested on Oct. 4 for assaulting his neighbor in a homophobic fashion only to commit another violent attack four days after posting bail:
On Oct. 4, Guerin allegedly repeatedly punched and choked his Ingleside neighbor, a 47-year-old man authorities are not identifying, on the 300 block of Seneca Avenue.
Talai said that while Guerin was attacking his neighbor, he said, "Do you know why I am going to kill you? Because you're a fag."
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Andrew Cheng reduced his bail from $175,000 to $150,000 on Oct. 11, Talai said. Guerin was arrested in connection with the power drill attack four days later.
Guerin had been staying with his brother on the 100 block of Judson Avenue in the Sunnyside district after he posted bail. They got in an argument over a faulty bathroom door latch, and his 61-year-old brother, who authorities are not identifying, got out his electric drill to fix it.
Still upset, Guerin grabbed his brother, forced him into the master bedroom, pinned him on the bed and revved the drill in this face, police said.
Maybe from now on, judges should think thrice about reducing bail for people accused of hate crimes.
