A 4.2 closer to the surface is going to be more of a jolt than a bigger one deeper down.

the dog wasn't too happy. nothing broke. I'm staying away from the windows for a while. it looks like the epicenter is around the Hayward fault.

I chose to get away from my very large office window. Strangely enough just this morning there was a campus wide earthquake drill.
It was on the Hayward Fault which runs along the East Side of the Berkeley campus. About 200 yards from my office building.
THe new football stadium they're building sits right on the fault

and the first one woke me up from a nap. Just felt the last one a few minutes ago.
We use to have tremors all the time 20-30 years ago, and they've become less frequent over the past couple of decades. Guess it's our turn in the Ring of Fire.
