Awesome day for a $9/hr worker. An Update
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 06:20 PM by bbinacan
Our new hire met with our VP. She will be starting at $30/hr. There is medical, dental, life insurance, and disability though not great. We do have a 401k but no contribution match. There is a profit sharing match, but that's very small. If she has to do a project on the road, she'll be paid an additional per diem of approximately $120. She told me today that she felt like she just won the lottery. I told her that she certainly deserved it. What a great day, I have a grin from ear to ear thinking about her new position. It's especially sweet because I was asked my opinion about hiring her permanently. :bounce:

It's great to hear something positive about people getting good jobs.

2. I'm senior to her with a college degree
and years of experience and from a salary standpoint, I only make $30/day more. Granted, I do get more from other sources. Some would be upset about the income parity, but I love it. Life is so much easier when the "support staff" make close to what the others make.

5. how did it happen ?
did she go out of her way to contribute and show she can do other work? was she asked to ?

i always think a way to get a higher position is by moving up at the same place you are at. but there is also the issue of not wanting to "interfere" and just do your job.

i guess it depends on work environments also. a place where people are more likely to interact and talk would mean people would have more of a chance at seeing others potential.

6. I guess that the best to answer
is to say yes.
