Occupy Bank of America?
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 08:36 PM by MannyGoldstein
Yes, I'm a dreamer, but here goes:

Bank of America just performed http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2149820">a slick little maneuver: they moved some ticking-time-bomb derivatives from part of the bank that services the 1%, to the part that holds the deposits of the 99%. In this way, when the bomb detonates and they owe hundreds of billions or even trillions (potentially up to 53 trillion), they can pay off their gambling debt to the 1% with 99%er bank deposits. Some BoA depositors will just be fucked and lose their money. Some deposits are guaranteed by the FDIC, so the depositors will be OK but the taxpayers will get left holding the bag. And the 1% will have had their way with us again.

This sucks. It's bullshit, but our government is basically OK with it.

So here's what I envision as a response: we get some folks stationed outside BoA branches and/or ATMs, armed with flyers that:

1. lets depositors know that BoA just put their money in harm's way in order to help the 1%
2. provides a list of local credit unions that would welcome their deposits and not work 24/7 to steal their money

Each dollar pulled from BoA is one dollar less to be potentially stolen from a depositor or taxpayer.

Yeah, it's not actually an occupation - well maybe an occupation of a bit of real estate outside each branch and ATM. But it's in the same Occupy spirit of calling attention to what's being done (good and hard!) to the 99%.

Thoughts on this fantasy are most welcome. Hopefully I'll be over this by tomorrow morning's alarm clock.

4. I have been telling every one I know about this. and recommending they join credit unions.
I've been a BofA customer since the 80's I'm closing all me BofA accounts before the end of October. My Credit union has much better service totally free.
