Poll question: Do you support the killing of 16 year old Denver born American who spoke out against the US? |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-21-11 03:00 AM by Bonobo
I will not add anything to it other than to say, for the sake of argument, that we KNOW he spoke out in favor of bad things happening to the USA AND that he was an American.

6. It gives me shivers of delight |

When a DUer diagnoses other DUers as psycopaths. Here stands amongst us a doctor, a psychiatrist of such intuition and insight that, discarding all modern diagnostic principles, using only an internet poll as evidence, can make the call that another human is a psycopath.
Congrats whatcha.......on not letting medicine, psychiatry, knowledge, wisdom or common sense get in the way of your calling out DU members as being deranged.

11. "Targeted killing" has a specific meaning here, in extrajudicial international law. |
|
It's a real thing that legalizes the killing of people extra-judicially.

...but expected.
This thread is a poll about al-akwai's 16 year old son being killed by drones.

5. Actually, from a moral standpoint, it is permissible to kill in self-defense. |
|
The legality of it is another matter altogether.

12. If it were self-defense I would not consider it immoral. |
|
If it were in a battle I would not consider it immoral.
But it's from a distance, with technology, without any effort to capture the individual alive.

20. Clearly, al-Awlaki was involved in previous attacks and he was also instrumental |
|
in current efforts to attack the US. He encouraged Major Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, as well as Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Christmas Day bomber, and he was a charismatic proselytizer for American jihad. Thus, I have no issues with respect to the morality of killing him.
For me, the most troubling aspect of employing lethal force against an American outside of combat zones is the taking an American individual's life without any of the protections of due process and civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.
It is not clear to me how that can be legally justified.

4. He was terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki's son, the OP should have included that. |

The son was hangin' with terrorists when the drones targeted the terrorists last Friday, October 14th, in Yemen. ------

Al-Awlaki's Son Among Al Qaeda Militants Killed in Yemen Air Strike
SANAA, Yemen – American drone strikes in southern Yemen have killed nine Al Qaeda-linked militants, including the media chief for the group's Yemeni branch and the son of a prominent U.S.-born cleric slain in a similar attack last month, government officials and tribal elders said Saturday.

10. Admitedly, I posted skewed polls before now |
|
But they're ususally to make a point in a slanted way.
You can't tell me you expected to get an honest representation of the best liberal thought by posting this badly thought out mini-questionaire?
Why not give us further details of the actual case so we can give you an informed answer?

15. I think we should always track down and kill ALL little American boys who criticize America |
|
:argh:
Actually I am completely against this entire war on terror business. I am completely against the whole way America runs completely rough shod over the entire Middle East and much of the world. But having said that I totally expect America or any other state power that has the means to do so to strike mercilessly at those who seek to strike at them. Justified or unjustified, right or wrong - this is what state powers will do to those who they consider a serious threat when they have the means to do so. One can quite sensibly argue that American imperium is largely to blame for a lot of what creates "terrorism" in the first place - and I completely agree. But in the real world - state powers are violent against those who they consider dangerous threats.

19. I think it's disgusting and a really chicken-*t way to kill. |
|
So many innocents have already died by these drones. Sitting safely somewhere across the world, someone is exterminating human beings without knowing who is nearby and may be killed, if the 'target' is even a real threat to anyone. It makes my skin crawl.
