5. The last picture shows real love
These are the same people that the republicans blocked getting some more funding so they can keep some of their jobs last night.

I hope that if one of those republican senators (Lieberman, Pryor, and Nelson tambien) homes catches fire they
wave away the fire trucks and let their home burn to the ground. Free Market and what not.

8. I hear ya...
...it's like the dog is thinking "WTF?" and the owner is thinking "Don't ever scare me like that again!"

When I first had my cat, Seiko, I lived on the third floor of an apartment building. She sat in the window and watched birds. One day I came in with a broom to get a spider off the ceiling. It scared her, so she turned around and ran...into the screen. She popped it out and I saw her go flying out the third story window with all four legs extended and I yelled "NO!"

Fortunately, this happened in late spring / early summer. Directly at the bottom of the drop was iceplant, and the sprinklers had been on earlier that day, so it was extra-soft.

When I got to the bottom floor, Seiko was sitting in the iceplant, very nonchalant, like "Anyone wanna tell me what just happened?"

I picked her up and took her to the vet for X-rays. Not a scratch. SuperKitty (she was less than a year old at the time).

But I'm sure I felt the same way that woman in the photo felt. People who aren't animal lovers don't get it. I never attempt to explain it to them. It's something that's felt and can't be articulated, at least not to the appropriate degree.

We're lucky. This should be plastered all over anytime repubs start that nonsense about 'public workers and their benefits' ,

Those first responders rule.

17. While it isn't everyones cup of tea.....
pets are such a big part of the families.

I am a CPR instructor and I did not even hesitate when my dog collapsed. I have revived one (choking) and lost one. Funny thing is I didn't even think twice about it either time.

I don't put pets and animals above people but we are steward of the planet and we do have a special obligation to those we personally care for.

22. These guys are awesome!
Yes, there would have been some jerks who stood by and did nothing, but these guys took the initiative and saved the dog. To the owner of the dog, I'm sure that meant a great deal.

There are those people who stand on the sidelines and don't act because "dogs aren't human". Then there are the heroes, like these guys, who do what they can to make this a better world. Good for them!!!

oxygen masks that were donated so that the firefighters could hook
pets up to oxygen tanks. I think they're now on every truck.

terrific!
I know people who are traumatized for years over the loss of an animal. Most would give up any of their possessions to have their pet back.(me included)

as he realizes that the dog is right on the edge, tells me all that I need to know about the man. I would love to buy him a beer.

36. Out of all of the photos, that's what struck me the most...
...you can see the sense of urgency. It takes a special kind of person to do that job. You can learn the skills, but if you don't have the heart to go with it, it would be impossible to excel. Seems to me that this man has both.

34. Dogs are an integral and important part of our family.
It is heartwarming to see firefighters understanding this.

This while our newly trained gestapo shoots dogs in cages for barking at them and anyone or anything else that talks back to them...and then the Bushpug courts back them up.

Is it any wonder, people are in the streets.

40. Dogs and cats have been responsible for saving countless lives
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 05:14 AM by nadine_mn
Either as trained therapy pets, search and rescue (think of 9/11 or any major earthquake or helping to find a missing person), or just as a family pet - alerting to the smell of smoke, scaring away intruders, or just prolonging our lives with their love and companionship.

These firemen are heroes!
