John Bolton: Obama Sabotaged Negotiations With Iraq In Order To Withdraw Our Troops
It’s not very surprising that Fox News reacted to President Obama’s announcement that all American troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year pretty much the same way the “fair and balanced” network reacted to the death of Qaddafi and even Osama Bin Laden – by immediately finding ways to diminish and denigrate Obama. But Fox News contributor and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton took the tactic to new lows when he announced tonight on On The Record that President Obama had deliberately undermined negotiations with Iraq to leave some of our forces there after January 1, 2012, the date President Bush negotiated for us to depart.

(snip, and Bolton said...)

“I think the president effectively made the decision that he was going to have all American forces out by the end of 2011, even before he was inaugurated. I think the negotiations (to keep American troops in Iraq after January 1) we’ve seen over the past couple months were efforts by the Defense Department to try and salvage something. I think the president wanted to be able to say that he had withdrawn all American forces, that he had ended this war. He’s now done that and the consequences, which I think will be substantially negative for the United States, will be his responsibility.”

12. Guess so. Headline's defamatory.
S.O.B. said 'and the consequences, which I think will be substantially negative for the United States, will be his responsibility' and 'he allowed the negotiations to collapse.'

9. I think may be some truth to this.
I am convinced the President has desperately wanted to get out of Iraq since day one but he knew he had to do it carefully and deliberately. I would not call it "sabotaged" but perhaps "calculated" would be a better word. I for one am very happy he did it regardless of the consequences.

13. The President knew that the culture of the two groups was inhospitable

All he had to do was to stay firm on certain principles that he knew would be unacceptable, for example immunity for the troops.

Now everyone walks away with political cover.

What FOX news is going to say that troops should serve without immunity from local courts?

And even the military will be in agreement.

And that's why its called chess.

Meanwhile many doubt that he will ever get the nomination and will never be elected.

11. Obama said during the 2008 that he would end the war in Iraq and bring ALL the Troops home ...

Obama is doing exactly what he promised.

The GOP'ers can't stand the fact that all the wars are winding down, troops are coming home, and peace is on its way :)

15. NewsCorp #2 investor is Kingdom Holdings.
Anyone else think that the House of Saud might prefer having the US military permanently garrisoned in Iraq as a buffer between Sunni SA and Shia Iraq/Iran? When is someone going to link the Saudi ownership of NewsCorp/Fox and Big Oil's bought-for political arm, the GOP to our economic demise? What's good for Saudi Arabia and Big Oil and the Republican Party are necessarily in our country's best interests.

The American people want the troops out of there....yesterday.

I love it when Republicans entrench themselves in a political position that has no chance of resonating with voters.

26. Bolton has always been a sad parody of a human being.
He should be in prison as a war criminal, not given any credibility whatsoever.

(Not that I was implying that you were giving him credibility ... I fully agree with your sentiment.) :hi:

28. personally I think the opposite is true, I think he tried as hard as he could
to keep the troops there, but could just not get the Iraqis to bite.

If he had his way, there would be active bases and thousands of troops there for some time to come.
