All of the right wing discussion accusing the President of withdrawing from Iraq too soon sends me
the liquor cabinet. There is no consideration of a military force that is exhausted and over budget. Where is the compassion for the soldiers and their families? Damn warmonger rethugs are just worried about their monies that they have invested in companies that went over there to do structural rebuilding.

3. I can't help but think this isn't a way to garner votes for Obama
He brings the troops home, the troops themselves and their families vote for Obama because he brought their family member(s) home.

I'm glad for many reasons that he's withdrawing troops but the timing is too suspect for me.

9. First of all this was one of his promises. Second, he was already downsizing the troops there.

10. It is never suspect to bring soldiers home from war. I don't care what the motive is. Get them
home.

12. So what????
After all the dirty tricks played by the repukes over the years and continuing today, (i.e. voter I.D., early voting, not to mention voting machines that are hacked and, of course, the lies told about WMDs) I wouldn't care if the timing was on purpose. At least the President is bringing this disgusting war to an end as he promised. The repukes will always find something to criticize President Obama. So glad he is ending this "DUMB WAR!"

20. Exactly right.
He's bringing them home. That is all that matters to me. I really don't give a shit what his motives are.

5. They are afraid...
... that Iraq will revert to chaos. And they should be because that is fairly likely. But they don't want to be proven to be the idiots they are - but if nine years won't do it nine decades won't either and you've got to pull the plug on a disastrous idea sometime.

6. Whatever Obama does, they will critize it.
As someone said "If Obama walked on water to rescue a drowning man, they would say it was because he doesn't know how to swim."

is all gone -- but now they will not have the protection of U.S. troops who volunteered because they want to "protect our freedoms."

The Exxonites and BPoops and Shellows do not want hordes of poverty-stricken Iraqis forming "#OccupyIraqiOilFields" campgrounds on "their" premises -- much simpler and cheaper for the BigOil juggernaut to call in American armed forces to assassinate the pesky natives than try to take care of it themselves --

But if the Corporatroops are going to be held accountable to Iraqi authorities for rough stuff against the protesting Iraqi masses, then . . . never mind.

18. More likely, once the troops are out, Iraqi courts will find some flaws in the contracts and rebid.

8. Let the repukes campaign on that. It is more important to occupy a country and engage in war than
it is to create jobs. I would really like to see how the American public respond to that

17. Republicon 'leaders' & propagandists are not just hawks, they are CHICKENHAWKS
The Republicons choose chickenhawks over and over and over -- braying and screaming for war, while they hide out safely in the back.

That's one of the main reasons Americans have lost respect for Republicons: Shameful chickenhawk hypocrisy.

It's obvious to everyone.

15. Iraqi PM: US Withdrawal Triggered by Immunity Issue
Iraqi PM: US Withdrawal Triggered by Immunity Issue

October 22, 2011

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says the U.S. decision to withdraw troops from Iraq by the end of the year came after the Iraqi government refused to guarantee legal immunity for U.S. service members in Iraq.

Maliki spoke to reporters Saturday, a day after U.S. President Barack Obama announced the withdrawal. The United States had asked for immunity for a small group of U.S. troops to remain in Iraq to help with training and counter influence of neighboring Iran.

About 39,000 U.S. troops remain in Iraq, down from a high of about 165,000 in 2008.

Also Saturday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton vowed that the withdrawal of troops will not end the U.S. commitment to Iraq...
