From Aug 8, 2011...

On tonight’s edition of “The Daily Show,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said that his Republican colleagues “like war.”

In a discussion about the debt ceiling, Durbin said he was “going to point the finger at my Republican colleagues for a moment.” He went on to say “Many of them have said they like war. They like waging war. They like the notion of staying in war. They think we should spend a lot of money in war.”

Host Jon Stewart responded “To be fair, though, I don’t think anyone would say, ‘I like war.’ Do you mean that metaphorically?”

“Metaphorically,” Durbin answered. “They like the notion that we would engage our troops in combat to assert America’s position in the world.”

He should know. I'm afraid that there are democrats who are this way also.

1. I would have dared Jon Stewart to ask me that question when my sons were

hounded in their senior years of high school by military recruiters.

My older son was getting the calls right after Bush was installed into the WH. This was before 9/11. I told them that under no circumstances would my sons be joining up under a Republican president.

"Why?" one asked.

"Because Republicans love war", I told him.

Was I wrong, Jon Stewart? When someone says the Republicans like/love war, we're not metaphorically speaking. It is a fact.

I'm sickened by his "let's be gentle & fair to the Republicans" attitude.
