GOP would lets us all die if they thought that would get that black man out of the White House
I think the sick fucks would let their own kids starve and die if that is what it took. I am convinced this is the case with the Republicans I am forced to be around. I have never knowingly left my little kids unattended with any Republican. Even for short periods of time. Because I know how they think from being forced to be around some.

Imagine going through life as a Republican.

1. I think most Americans miss the issue
This has been neo-con foreign policy for a long time so the neo-cons are now using their scorched earth policies at home. The firmly believe that only ReTHUGS should rule. They did not steal that 2000 election for a joke. Rove stated clearly that they were intent on maintaining permanent power.

This is how governments not supported by US interests were treated for decades. Now this has been very profitable for consultants, etc., Why would they not bring it home eventually?

7. Yep. It's particularly galling to them that Obama is black
(or half black if you prefer), but overall it's not just his color. Rove promised a permanent majority and Obama's election in '08 belied that promise. If Hillary would have won, it would still be scorched earth obstruction from the proto fascists.

But as I said, I'm sure that's it's particularly galling, especially to the average Republican dupe that Obama isn't purebred white.

2. Their hatred of Obama is kind of scary at times.
They don't give a crap about this country. All they want is the presidency back, be any means they deem necessary.

6. My birther/tea pot parents are perfectly comfortable denying their kids
Social security and Medicare while they themselves collect social security and use Medicare. They also cheer the idea of destroying the department of education denying their grandkids an opportunity to benefit from the same system that educated themselves and their own kids. And champion getting rid of affirmative action, unemployment insurance, Medicaid, and all social programs. So yes they'd sell out their own kids to get rid of Obama and really all democrats.

19. Many people of the age of the grandparents you mention were educated
prior to the Dept of Education (about 1979, signed by Pres Carter IIRC)

Some who were educated 'way' back then even got people on the moon.

Since most education decisions are made by the individual states, why is there a need for a federal department, which in actuality is large, unwieldy, and quite expensive?

22. The US Department of Education has precious little to do with the education policies of
Edited on Mon Oct-24-11 07:39 AM by Obamanaut
the individual states, other than NCLB, which some people think is flawed.

From the ED website

<snip>
What Is Not Part of the Department of Education’s Role?

In creating the Department of Education, Congress specified that:

No provision of a program administered by the Secretary or by any other officer of the Department shall be construed to authorize the Secretary or any such officer to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum, program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system, over any accrediting agency or association, or over the selection or content of library resources, textbooks, or other instructional materials by any educational institution or school system, except to the extent authorized by law. (Section 103, Public Law 96-88)

Thus, the Department does not
•establish schools and colleges;
•develop curricula;
•set requirements for enrollment and graduation;
•determine state education standards; or
•develop or implement testing to measure whether states are meeting their education standards.*
These are responsibilities handled by the various states and districts as well as by public and private organizations of all kinds, not by the U.S. Department of Education.

The last line in the excerpt about the responsibilities handled by the various states should be of interest to you, inasmuch as you mentioned states rights.

25. States Rights? Did you bother to read what ED does NOT do? I posted it for you,
from the ED web site. Post 22. Interesting isn't it. The states handle virtually all of their own education intetests, except NCLB. They hit the jackpot on that, didn't they. And now, Race to the Top.

not too many Dems--but even if one Dem's okay with jettisoning rule of law, the Nuremberg principles, the Geneva Conventions, Social Security, and the Constitution so "he can look good," we're in trouble

14. Plausible deniability
He actively reinforces racist talking points - giving them "credibility" with people who are not overtly racist but do only have a superficial understanding of race.
And, gives the GOP a way to say they aren't racists because they have a black friend.

Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 03:09 PM by The Wielding Truth
while defying any sense of fairness to go after their perceived roadblocks to making money.

They see justice as only for those they feel are worthy of it.It's sad and it's that kind of thinking that we hoped to deter by creating an country which strives for equality.

They just don't know how to share and accept and appreciate what America is meant to stand for. So we have to constantly show them that human civility is respecting the human rights of all.Democracy is what we all want. Each citizen has part of the power to govern themselves.

They forget that we are to"Do unto others as you would have done unto you".
Acts like this must remind them have empathy. They have lost it through their selfish irresponsible and unaccountable time at the top.

There are real issues at play and as long as that parrot squak keeps going then nothing will be accomplished on either side.
