7. I doubt the families of the fallen want to see another "mission accomplished" party |
|
I think a high quality, tasteful thank you campaign would be really appreciated.

8. Whether or not "The U.S.A. won" will not be known for years...decades...even centuries. |
|
The British Mandate of Mesopotamia created Iraq from Ottoman regions of Baghdad, Basra and Mosel after WWI. The defeat of the Turks may have brought to an end the Ottoman empire, but it began a century of Western imperialism in the region.
Iraq is not a "naturally" formed nation state; its borders have been drawn and redrawn many times by occupiers. Sunni, Shia, Christian, Kurd and Turkmen were told they are now one people and one country. But how can people be Sunni, Shia, Kurd and an Iraqi all at the same time?
Once the US pulls out, Iraq will enter a transient period of self-determination and it is not likely be a peaceful transition.
Unfortunately, I believe we have opened a tribal, factional and religious can of worms...

My point relates to the fact that it was WRONG to be there in the first place.
No one knows how our interference will manifest itself as we move through this century. Perhaps history will look back and give the Bush/Obama Iraqi policy a pat on the back. However, that would require a reversal of historical precedent.

not celebration of war. The least said about heroism or winning of anything, the better.

13. +1 to parades for vets, -1 for bullshit about us "winning" |
|
But I'm really excited for all the vets to be coming home- and I look forward to the day that we are similarly kicked out of Afghanistan.
We're going to need every one for Spring 2012 OWS protests!
