The Police are openly siding with Occupy Wall Street
Edited on Sun Oct-23-11 05:22 PM by formercia
There are a number of people who have dissed the non-violent approach to the Occupations. It looks like it's starting to pay-off.

http://www.occupypolice.org/

Welcome Brothers and Sisters. We are the 99%.

Edit: It seems the site may be down temporarily. It was up just a little while ago, but is likely overloaded at the moment.

this should not be any surprise, even though many DUers cannot see past the uniform.

I still don't trust them, and I see no reason to trust them yet. The proof of their sincerity is in their future actions.

The police are used to doing this type of sting. They could just as easily be gathering names and email addresses.

17. In a police state everyone breaks the law if the police say so
From the very beginning in NYC the police have acted as if OWS is the enemy to be beaten. They didn't even pretend otherwise. They weren't there to keep the peace or protect civilians. They were there to protect Wall Street and they used deceit to arrest the 500 on the Brooklyn Bridge. The pepper spraying has been acts of aggression and beating peaceful citizens has also been deliberate.

I just don't trust a site that's been up for two days claiming love and brotherhood for us. At least not yet.

We should all welcome them to the fold.

They are the 99% as well.

12. Actions speak louder than words
and so far I've seen far more 'police actions' in the form of brutality toward noncombative protestors than anything else. If they are sincere in their words, then let them take the first step by ceasing the brutality.

13. Have an open Mind.
Give them the benefit of the doubt.

Polarization is as counterproductive as violence.

15. I have an open mind and I give the benefit of the doubt
If there's any 'polarization' going on, it's from police departments with orders to bust heads. I'm keeping an open mind, as you suggest, but as of this moment all I've seen from police on the street is as I've already described. Get back to us if you see anything different, but it'll take more than mere words to convince me otherwise.

18. I pretty much said the same thing in post #6
From the beginning the NYPD was needlessly antagonistic. They used deceit to arrest 500 people on the bridge and the pepper spraying and beatings were uncalled for. The police can and do exercise self-control so when they don't it means they mean to be brutal.

19. You're not keeping an open mind!
You're not swallowing these empty platitudes hook, line & sinker without the slightest evidence of actually living up to promises on the part of police in any locale! You closed-minded person you! :sarcasm:

14. that is troubling
there's a right attitude toward police and there's a wrong attitude toward police. the police are nobody's brothers and sisters. they are 100% parasites and bullies. however if this outreach to police is motivated by fear of the police, that is different and understandable.

I don't know if this refusal on the part of Albany, NY, police to arrest protestors who had broken no laws is related to occupypolice.org, but it shows that at least one PD is capable of showing common sense and refusing to worsen the situation.
