Texas Rangers fans give Shrub large ovation! Go Cardinals?
Edited on Sun Oct-23-11 07:31 PM by AndrewP
I was fairly neutral in who to cheer for in the World Series, but seeing Shrub throw out the first pitch and get a rousing ovation in Arlington swung me over to St. Louis! LOL. Yuck.

Anyone else here witness that horror?

17. Go Cardinals? Never!
From one of my favorite baseball blogs, sullybaseball, 10 reasons why we should root for the Rangers:

9. A Rangers World Championship would George W. Bush happy and occupied

I am not going to get political here. All I am going to say are two things that I don't think anyone can deny.

1. George W. Bush would probably be happier if he were the Commissioner of Baseball rather than the former President of the United States.

2. He seems very happy being out of the political fray.

There might be pressure for him to be more vocal in the scrum that will be the 2012 election. For his sake and ours, I hope he is just going to sit back and savor another summer watching the Rangers defend their title.

30. Exactly, and while he was there, the franchise faltered....
He held up Arlington for ransom insinuated that the team would move to greener pastures and that they had better pay up and build them a new ball park and pay for the whole thing so that right before he left, he made 20 million on a $ 250,000 investment with money that wasn't his...

They put him in their to get "business owner" on his resume so he could run for President...

Fuck the Rangers.

25. I have relatives who live in Olivette (upscale suburb of StL) and
tbey are about as right-wing racist as they come. Every time someone makes what they consider a poor driving decision, it's "fucking N****r this" and "Stupid N*****r that". I have nothing further to do with any of them.

N.B. Missouri was a slave state and hotly contested in the opening months of the Civil War. But it's also where Union General John Fremont got a two-year jump on A. Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation when Fremont issued his own declaration that declared escaped slaves 'contraband of war' and thus not subject to return to their owners. Lincoln had to reign in Fremont big time to keep the border states neutral. But Fremont has always had a gold star in my book for his impetuous (but correct) action.

36. Rangers won last night 4-0
The Rangers won last night, 4-0. Maybe you are confusing it with Saturday night when the Cards won.

I think any former president would get big applause, and maybe people ignore the specific politics. I don't know.
