Plans have been set to rally at least 600 students, parents, teachers and administrative staff at noon Monday at the Illinois Capitol in an attempt to sway lawmakers to kill Amendment 3 of Senate Bill 540.
The Carpentersville-based school district has been encouraging families, its employees and students to help put grassroots pressure on lawmakers as they return for the veto session this week.

“This is literally our LAST CHANCE before the Senate makes its final decision,” school board President Anne Miller wrote in a letter to district staff members and parents.
The school district, ranked as the sixth-largest in the state, anticipates collecting about $14 million in additional tax revenue annually after the current 23-year tax break expires in September 2012.
The village of Hoffman Estates, meanwhile, is pushing for the bill’s passage. Sears is the largest employer in Hoffman Estates.
Sears bailed out of downtown Chicago and left major economic wreckage two decades ago. Now that their 23-year tax break is up they are threatening to bail. They are the worst sort of corporate citizen and are deserving of a boycott.
....
Just another BAD corporate citizen slinking out of town to avoid it committments.
