Ballots are out for the OR-1st election (and a vid of the Dem debate)
(x-posted to Oregon)

Vid and debate analysis here:

http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/10/democrats_vying_to_replace_dav.html

I was initially leaning towards Bonamici, but after watching the recent debate and candidate forum, I thought Avakian clearly dominated.

He's probably the candidate that I would least like to have as a neighbor, but he's the only one of the three (or four, if you're feeling generous) that I think has a chance to beat Rob Cornilles in the general.

Though it hasn't gotten much play yet, this is going to be one of the "battle-ground" elections. The thugs think they have a real chance to win back the seat with Cornilles.

Make no mistake, I will actively support whoever the D nominee is, and I know Bonamici has the early name recognition and key endorsements, and Witt is probably the most progressive of the bunch, but honestly, after watching the recent debate, I really think it's Avakian who has the best shot at keeping the seat blue.

And the opponent: (He's a smart, rich, telegenic fucktard, and he has a very good chance at winning)

Folks, in the coming months, Oregon is going to need a metric fuck-ton of help, we are going to be out-spent by orders of magnitude, by a rich, popular rethug who gives great sound-bites.

One of the bluest districts in the nation is in serious danger of turning red.

Please helps us make sure that doesn't happen.

1. Here's my response to your thread in the Oregon forum...
I'm leaning Avakian too now. I could go for either Avakian or Bonamici, but my sense is that Avakian will be more of a fighter for the working class folks and not take no for an answer when the chips are down. I think Bonamici is fine in a lot of areas, and I think WANTS to do the right thing, but I wonder if she will be more apt to fall prey to what afflicts so many other Democrats in congress now in not being the fighters we need to overcome Citizen's United enabled campaigns to keep them from working hard against the corporate lobbies, etc.

Here's my list of detailed thoughts that I just posted to your thread in the Oregon forum...
