Anybody else heard anything about a massive |
|
union march on Wall Street on 11-5? I've heard it's in the proposed stage at the present time. The plan would be to unite a massive union presence with the OWS protesters. I'm just curious if anybody else had heard anything.
The theme would basically be the same as the European protesters, IOW, anti-austerity. Don't make the working class pay for this crisis.

If the Unions had any real Power they would have already exerted it.. They are swiftly becoming a thing of the past.. distant past at that...A Paper Tiger...The ONLY thing that is going to matter is if people vote or not, and we all know how the great majority in this country feel about that.. I would venture a guess that fifty percent of the 99% do not bother to vote..IMO if they don't vote they should just stay home and take whatever comes their way, and not say one word about it..

5. In my opinion the union leadership in this country |
|
today has more in common with the 1% than with the rest of us. Our union owns a resort in PA where I hear more CEOs and politicians hang out at the golf course and club than any of us members.

9. I don't disagree about the union leadership |

being next to worthless, but we still need the unions themselves. They just need to be under control of the membership rather than the labor aristocracy. I gather this means you haven't heard about this proposed march. :)

I couldn't disagree MORE with this statement. Just because they aren't as active as they should be, doesn't mean that they can't BECOME active. Look at the ILWU in Washington state and indeed on the entire West Coast. THAT'S pretty close to what a union SHOULD be.
Yes, they need to wake up and yes they MUST make sure their LEADERSHIP is on the side of the membership and the rest of us, but the institution itself is more needed now than ever.

I get an email nearly every day from my union and/or AFL CIO encouraging me to participate in OWS.
