Constant unending unsolicited loan offers on our property the banks cannot stand we own it clear
My wife inherited the family farm when her mother passed away several years ago. First the funeral home started in what are you going to do with the property? No problem we are going to retire on the farm. Response the funeral home was getting inquires (not that it was any of their business) Grandma had a prepaid burial. Within the first year we had at least four unsolicited calls from Realtors the last two got a nasty response none would respond as to who gave them our contact information. Two years ago the home equity offers also unsolicited started at least monthly once the Realtors stopped. This year we get a home equity loan offer in the mail at least twice a week.

My point is the banks blood suckers cannot leave you alone. If you have something they want they are out to hook you in and cannot stand that you own it clear. It is no wonder a 99% movement gathers support especially if you have what they want.

1. Hold fast! You are one of the few, maybe 10 folks on earth
who actually have leverage! I'd give my left nut to be where you are. They don't own you and they can't stand it.

22. Except for the property taxes!
And should you live long enough to have memory problems, the county can still get ahold of your property, for the simple act of forgetting to pay a couple of hundred bucks a year in property taxes.

3. I used to get some crap like that and then it tapered off. I never
responded to any of it, maybe they just got tired of no response, no idea ... I think some of them are just vultures reading obituaries and real estate transactions. There are a hell of a lot of vultures in this country that need a swift kick in the ass. I support OWS 1,000,000%

6. There are a number of people who visit the obit section
of the local newspaper. They do a little digging and bam, they've got your info. These are considered 'LEADS' and are so acted upon.

7. Are you in the "Do Not Call Registry"?
If not, I suggest you register there. It won't stop cahrities of politicians, but it should help with telemarketers

8. That did not stop Realtors.
One came out personally a week after she passed away and we disconnected the phone. We now have the property gated.

10. I would also check with the county assessor
Please make sure that property is in your name, and not in the name of some local robber baron. Really unscrupulous realtors have been known to report that they have bought the property and present the assessor with forged documents.

13. I have not heard that one.
As insistent a couple were in their approach would not put it past them. My response to the last two was most decidedly not polite. We also get private letters asking if we want to sell. Farm is suurounded by a neander of a river. There is a major underground hydrolic feed to the river it has been suggested that is why they want it so much. The farm well is very shallow with high pressure.

11. That's definitely the coffin chasers
They are hoping you will be irresponsible enough to load up debt on your "free property." About 10 years ago we paid our house off 10 years into a 30 year mortgage (we had a financial windfall which made it possible) and we didn't really get much of that. But obviously we had paid our mortgage off early, denying the bank vast sums of interest and establishing that we weren't going to be doing anything stupid.

14. I hear ya
Paid mine off in '03, saw this coming for a while. Worked my ass off day and night to do it but it's ours and we won't borrow a penny against it. Have worn out a couple shredders feeding them the offers we would get just as soon as we pulled them out of the mailbox. Not interested in going back into bondage ;)

Banks want performing loans on their books because it makes them look good to regulators.

When I paid my truck off early, they dragged their feet considerably during the process. I was a performing loan that was leaving.

With a bank...it's all about numbers, not people.

21. Anything that's public record
(and property records and obits are) there will be a group of people coming after you for money, as sure as the sun rises and sets. Attorneys, bankers, insurance agents, whatever. Anything to part you from your money.
