Cain's new campaign ad features some guy smoking. I wonder if it is trying
to connect him to Obama since Obama was,(is?) a smoker? It's really weird seeing someone smoke in an advertisement and this one it's at the very end likes it is suppose to mean something.

1. Meanwhile, the 70 percent out there who don't
smoke will be totally turned off by this.

2. I know so why is he doing it? I'm just putting the question out there.
Then again it could be just because he is not the smartest rock in the box.

10. I think that's the right answer. Just consider the stupid things he says every day.
He's an egomaniac without a clue.

15. Because I don't know anything about the person
or group who made the ad, I really have no idea.

I do know that most smokers are quite oblivious to what a complete turn-off smoking is to almost everyone else. Plus, that drag on the cigarette at the end comes out of nowhere, because the guy doesn't seem to be smoking or even holding a lit cigarette earlier on. Oh, well.

I doubt Cain will get the nomination, and if he does, it will be quite enjoyable to watch his level of ignorance up against Obama.

3. Interesting question, and when I watched the video I never even thought about that
By the way, do you know if Obama still smokes? I remember hearing something about Michelle trying to get him to stop, and either way I don't care about that..I smoke, so maybe thats why.

11. I always thought he was creepy. Why they say he has charisma is beyond me. I think he's totally
unappealing.

5. The longer people talk about this bizarre ad, the less time they have to talk about Cain's lack of
political experience and his proposed tax hikes on everyone but the weathiest.

7. If it made zero sense then, it still made more sense than the Cain campaign.

12. Many conservatives smoke. Many conservatives who do not smoke ...
dislike government rules that they feel go too far such as the laws in NYC that basically bans outdoor smoking. Conservatives do not like a nanny state. On top of that, the smoking in the video has caused it to garner a lot of attention. Negative attention can sometimes be better than no attention.

New York City outdoor smoking ban begins
May 23, 2011|By Jordana Ossad, CNN

Smokers in New York City looking to light up in most public places will not be able to without paying a price after an outdoor citywide smoking ban takes effect Monday.

The law, which Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed in February after it was passed by the New York City Council, will make smoking illegal in New York City's 1,700 parks and on the city's 14 miles of public beaches. Smoking will also be prohibited in pedestrian plazas like Times Square.

The ban is designed to help curb exposure to secondhand smoke as well as reduce litter.

Don't underestimate this man. Remember that Obama was underestimated by the Hillary machine. If the Republicans would actually nominate him, he could present a strong challenge to Obama. Fortunately the establishment Republicans want to run Mitt Romney and will do everything in their power to sabotage Cain. In my opinion, Romney has very little chance of beating Obama especially if the economy shows any signs of improving prior to the election.

13. Ayn Rand novels are full of descriptions of people smoking. Seems like they are going for that demo.

I mean he looks like such an uptight asshole with his cop mustache and big glasses and his Members Only jacket.

Also, for some reason the way Cain revolves around and has that creepy smile reminds me of those Burger King commercials with the creepy "king". Since Herb Cain was once CEO of Burger King its probably the same ad people.

And he's said he'll update the music at state functions from the traditional pieces like Sousa marches and whatnot. If the music in his commercial is any indication of what that would be like, I'd rather keep the Sousa stuff.

14. It's kind of bizarre

But it did raise the issue this morning on the Toady Show about Cain's past as a restaurant industry lobbyist, and how much time and effort he spent on behalf of the restaurant industry trying to blunt efforts to prohibit smoking in restaurants. Whatever the smoking in the campaign ad was designed to convey, it may wind up having a very negative effect on Cain's campaign as questions might be raised about his lobbyist past. So far, Cain's just been "the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza chain"; this might fill out his resume in a way he didn't want to talk about. Lobbyists don't enjoy a great deal of cachet in these here United States nowadays.
