Birther Oathkeeper Convicted In Attempted Courthouse Takeover
Source: TPM

Georgia birther and Oathkeeper Darren Huff was convicted Tuesday of attempting to take over a Tennessee courthouse and conduct citizen’s arrests on officials.

After a week-long trial, a jury convicted Huff of knowingly carrying a firearm in interstate commerce with the intent to use it in a civil disorder, but acquitted him of using a firearm in relation to another felony, CBS News reports.

<snip>

The case dates back to April 2010 when Huff, carrying a Colt .45 and an AK-47, went to Tennessee to conduct citizens’ arrests on officials. Huff, a member of the Oath Keepers, said he going to support Walter Francis Fitzpatrick, a leader of the birther and Patriot group American Grand Jury, who was arrested for trying to perform a citizen’s arrest on a Grand Jury foreman. Fitzpatrick was angry that court officials didn’t let him pursue a Grand Jury trial against “illegal alien, infiltrator and impostor” President Obama, and other “domestic enemies.”

In his trial last week, Huff teared up on the stand when he said: “my government has called me a potential domestic terrorist.”

3. All you gotta do is take a look at him and it's clear he's not the brightest armadillo in the desert
Typical right wingnut idiot. It's at moments like these that I begin to see a reason for prisons.

5. Typical racist asshole, they all think that they are "Super Patriots".
And have no problem using the threat of deadly force against the legitimate government in order to impose their version and interpretation of the Constitution.

And none of them are smarter than a bag of hammers, yet they'll try to tell you that everyone else's understanding of that document is flawed.

6. Thank goodness. These people need to be locked up and we have too many
of them around here.

He was arrested about 10 miles from where I live.

They were going to take over the town of Sweetwater after occupying the courthouse. I laughed when I heard that. It's a very small, old town with antique stores and tea shops downtown.

If they took it over and held it hostage, what would've een the purpose. Free antiques? More cucumber sandwiches?

Definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he's a couple sandwiches short of a picnic, etc.

9. Glad as I am that this cretin will be 'on ice' for awhile
he'll probably be even worse when he emerges from prison after obtaining an advanced degree in domestic terrorism. I would prefer that the FBI keep tabs on this sort of character instead of running 'sting' operations while posing as representatives for Islamic terrorists.
