Good job introducing racism into this action.

The police action is disgusting - but trying to make it racial is as disgusting to me.

that if you're a Republican, the trickle down theory will make you rich, too. To all those who think they are above the fray and nothing bad will happen to them if the GOP gets complete control, may you all get what you deserve. Times three. Seeing them all finally realize the truth and suffer the consequences of their actions will be the upside to being homeless, unemployed, and sick.

52. It is unclear to me
that those laws trump the constitutional right of assembly and petition. While I have checked, I do not see any language that implies any level of government is empowered to inhibit or prohibit such activity on public lands.

However, I know tyrants will use all rationales available (unsanitary conditions, "vandalism", noise, etc.) to suppress speech.

Fundamental question ... tea baggers show up at protests armed to the teeth, and there is no police reaction and usually no police presence. Unarmed protesters are surrounded by police, and are often harassed, attacked, arrested.

Why this difference? It think it because a) the 1% regard the tea baggers as their foot soldiers and b) tea party protests have been relatively short in duration. Occupations have gone on so long they must now be regarded as a condition, rather than an event. The powers that be grow disturbed, and so prod their minions into action.

... and behave in an un-Constitutional manner.

Unlike Teabaggers.

Interesting. Let's see some of what you accuse. I'm sure there are some mad housewives and college students who have mouthed off in an unprofessional "unconstitutional" manor. Frustration breeds that kind of thing. If that de-legitimizes a movement, the Teabaggers have been illegitimate for years now. Indeed every movement ever formed is illegitimate!

No kind of free speech is strictly unconstitutional. To suggest otherwise is idiotic. There is speech that is controlled occasionally. For example if the speech is directly an incitation to violence, but that speech is not, in itself, unconsitutional.

Speaking out stating for or against lending money to the banks is not unconstitutional. Lending money to the banks is not unconstitutional, nor is NOT lending money to the banks. A person stating that the government has a responsibility to provide healthcare, education, and retirement is not acting or speaking in a manner that contradicts the constitution, nor (obviously) is that speech considered unconstitutional. The government electing to provide these servies is also not unconstitutional.

Go back to school and learn about the theory behind constitutional government. Oh, and don't bother with Ron Paul, he really isn't that bright.

121. That doesn't make any sense
Do you have any specific examples of the protestors advocating for governments to ignore the constitution?

The second part of your sentence makes absolutely no sense. The constitution was not written so much as controls on the individual, but rather more as controls on the power exercised over the individual. Please tell me how the OWS protesters are 'behaving in an unconstitutional manner.' Or you can merely concede the entire statement and apologize.

I live in Oakland. This morning I heard that there were police from a lot of East Bay cities there. Emeryville, San Leandro, Hayward, Union City and Fremont. That's a lot of cops. I think they're trying to intimidate the Occupy Oakland. I can't imagine why else they would have so many police.

I find it disgusting.

61. perhaps it's a sign of the times. Oakland cops have been under unprecedented assault as far as
their own labor rights go; the cuts have been massive... Surplus of labor is calculated to result in more pliant - and literally desperate - labor force, ready to do anything they're told. Cops are not the exception here, sadly; they reflect the general dynamics of social *re*gress. :(

65. The whole world is watching
Spread pictures of this fascist police riot in the middle of the night everywhere on the internet so the whole world knows just how "free" we are here in the capitalist paradise of Amerika!

Unarmed, defenseless and peaceful citizens exercising their constitutional rights attacked and gassed in the dark, hauled off to jail and all their possessions destroyed!

If this can be done to people in a public park, it can be done to a suburban household as well, and it will. Just a matter of time. The mask of freedom and liberty in the USA that the 1% show to the world is coming off and the ugly reality is creeping into view.

Armed fascist teabaggers were never once even touched by police, much less militarized swat/riot squads. Let the whole world see the fascist opression we are living under in the good old USA, land of the "free", home of the brave(occupiers)!

66. Remember that classic Frank Zappa quote about the curtain/scenery/illusion of democracy?

I think he must've time traveled or something, it was pure genius, and oh so true:

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

69. Wow so true
And here it is, the illusion is fading away. Not only here but worldwide. The bankster 1% are getting tired of letting us 99% think we are free.

They want total power in all aspects now, government, economies, everything. No one in power can or will stand up to them.

Except some peaceful occupiers in parks across this country. And for that crime they are beaten, gassed, terrorized and hauled off to jail in the middle of the night!

124. The city will pay in the courts where it will cost them money $$$!
I hope everyone arrested clogs the courts and has EVERY police officer subpoenaed. That is what the OWS people are doing in NYC. They are telling the city that they will not allow only some arrests charges to be dropped. They must all be dropped, otherwise, they will take every single case to court and make sure the city pays for their un-American fascist attacks on PEACEFUL demonstrators.

70. Oh look . . . protecting and serving . . . the 1%.
I don't really know why anyone's surprised. Ask anyone who was a punk rock kid in the 80s how California & DC police treated kids who weren't resisting their arrest for . . . well, they really never knew what they were being harassed and intimidated for, really.

Do people really still think they protect and treat everyone equally?

Example: in 2007. Here are scenes from the anti-war protest. 5 piglet "Gathering of the Eagles" freepers are beating a Gold Star dad up.

So for sure, these assailants, identified and in broad daylight, will be brought to justice, right?

Funny . . . it looks like the assaulters in question aren't being the least bit inconvenienced by DC's "finest".

Oh, and during that march, I saw firsthand how these "Patriots", protected by police from us "rioting demonstrators" who were instructed by the organizers of the event not to engage them (yeah, I'm sure they'll offer us the same courtesy), practiced intimidation, menacing and assault. During that march, a freeper jumped a barricade, assaulted a woman and threw her camera to the ground. Where was HIS arrest?

This happened in August of that same year. Wow, takes two 250 lb + officers to strong-arm and knee-hold a woman with a broken leg. That's reasonable. He's so stressed and the situation's so out of control, he even takes the time to pepper spray a would-be photographer. Hmmmmmm . . .

They turn a blind eye to just about everything The Gathering of the (Kl)Eagles, Town hall disruptors or the TeaHadists have pulled off for years.

Liberal demonstrators, no matter how small or large in numbers, can look forward to beatings, macings and arrests for the most meaningless of infractions.

This doesn't just hold true for normal protest - it's true for Presidential events as well.

Bush's Coronation 2005: along the parade route - rows and rows and rows of State Troopers, 3-5 rows deep, shoulder to shoulder, all in Kevlar, all armed to the teeth. Sidewalk police - full riot gear, 3 foot batons, shields. Mounted police. Security Checkpoints were well-staffed and flowing smoothly . . . I got in the parade route in a whopping 20 minutes. All for less than half of what came to Obama's event four years later.

Oh, and speaking of Obama's Inauguration . . . A patrolman every, what, 15 feet? No shoulder to shoulder rows. Didn't see the tons of riot cops. Sharpshooters here and there. Meh. Checkpoint security was grossly understaffed - took 8 hours just to even get in the parade route in 8 degree weather. For thousands upon thousands of people per street, they had four very slow moving bottlenecks. It's like they were doing everything in their power to discourage people.

Obama presidential speaking events, post 2009 - "Patriots" show up brandishing sidearms and rifles.

Now think about it. You can say "but they wasn't along his path" all you like.

What would happen if you were spotted in the open half a mile away from where Bewsh was gonna speak with a sidearm or a rifle, and you were liberal?? What would happen?

Think you'd receive that same blind eye?

You'd be in prison, and you KNOW it.

So don't anyone tell me they "protect and serve" us equally. It's bullshite.

119. People are protesting because they are outraged, so Oakland
and apparently Jerry Brown's California government set out to cause even more outrage.

How stupid can you get.

If conditions are really unsanitary and unsafe, people will go home. Let individuals decide when the conditions are too unsafe.

I have heard that there are lots of homeless encampments. No one seems to be so concerned about those.

This is political repression, nothing else.

123. City Administrator Deanna Santana and Mayor Quan are to blamed for this unAmerican act.
Apparently, it was Oakland City Administrator Deanna Santana who ordered the raid. "Oakland began preparing to dismantle the Occupy camp in front of City Hall a week ago, when interim Police Chief Howard Jordan and City Administrator Deanna Santana put out the call for neighboring jurisdictions to provide some of the hundreds of cops who wound up being mustered early Tuesday."

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/10/25/BA1V1LM4N1.DTL#ixzz1buuU0mhP

Mayor Jean Quan is also getting a lot of heat. People are criticizing her in FB for allowing this to happen:
