Nearly two out of three Americans believe that wealth is unfairly distributed in the country, a new poll shows.
Sixty-six percent of people said money should be more evenly distributed in America, while just 26 percent said the current income distribution is fair. Seven out of 10 Americans believe the policies of Congressional Republicans favor the wealthy, according to a CBS/New York Times poll. (

Democrats felt more strongly about this than Republicans or independents, with 86 of them saying money should be more spread out in the United States, while 67 percent of independents and 36 percent of Republicans said the same. The majority of Republicans, 55 percent, said they find the current distribution of income in America to be fair, compared to only 7 percent of Democrats who said it is fair, the NY Times/CBS poll found.
The New York Time/CBS poll results were also released on the same days as a Congressional Budget Office report that showed that the wealthiest Americans saw a 275 percent increase in income over the last three decades. A report released last week also showed that the income gap between the rich and poor Americans continued to grow last year.
