Just Called The White House & This Is The First Time This Happened To Me When Calling .......
I was kept on the line to wait for the next available operator for over 5 minutes then a recorded message came on that said that they were unable to take my call and they hung up on me. I was going to lodge my discussed of the treatment the Occupy Oakland protestors got from the local police.

Either they are experiencing a high call volume at the WH or they just don't want to hear from us.

I encourage everyone to call. Here is the WH number: 1-202-456-1111.

1. Try calling Oakland authorities instead. WH had nothing to do with Occupy Oakland.

2. Sorry - But I Believe That The President Needs To Weigh In On The Violence Being Perpetrated By ....
local police all over this country. Occupy Oakland is just the best example right now. The President needs to disavow such tactics and not only "feel for the protestors".

BTW - I just called back to the WH and was given the same treatment. Kept on hold for awhile and then disconnected.

3. Wow, just wow. There are some at DU who don't feel Obama had
or has any obligation to speak to the police-state tactics being used. So I guess those same folks will argue that the White House is under no obligation to hear complaints about said police-state tactics either.

Edited on Wed Oct-26-11 02:39 PM by butterfly77
will the authorities stop doing what they are doing illegally? Will he need to speak every time someone does something illegally any minute of the day in any state. Should he speak every day?

28. Imagine if LBJ had that mindset in the 60's in Selma.
and had not called the National Guard to protect the Civil Rights Marchers.

8. I think the correct term is The Bloody Pulpit.
What Presidents say should matter. As I recall, he swore to uphold the constitution which
means protecting the citizens of this country from police brutality.

President Eisenhower did not hesitate to send federal troops to intervene in Little Rock so
that children might attend school. That is the kind of courage that this president might show
now.

9. Is that what you think the president of a Democracy needs
to simply stand up for the US Constitution which he swore to defend and protect? Are things that far gone that it would take magic to get the president we elected to simply condemn the violation of his citizens 1st Amendment rights when he sees it happening? He can't do that much? It's a small thing, we're not asking to go sleep in the park, or to put himself in the line of fire, he doesn't have to meet the cops, as the protesters do, face to face.

He simply has to lecture them, the way he often lectures us about things he thinks we are ignorant of, on the rights of Americans under the US Constitution and to point out to them that we are not terrorists, this is not a war zone.

That is his JOB! That is his most important job. That is what he took an oath to do. Unbelievable the way this man gets protected as if he was a delicate flower. If he is that delicate that we cannot even ask him to stand up for the American people, what is he doing in the WH??

11. The message of silence on the right of American citizens to protest
the actions of their government without experiencing police brutality while at the same time condemning other countries from the same is hypocracy.

maybe we should be calling Obama to go pick up our kids from school too, that will do it.

Forget about the fact that the Oakland has a democratic mayor.

19. What about the Mayor of Oakland
there is a possibility that she might have given the orders to remove the protesters, why not
flood her office with phone calls demanding she withdrew the police force from harassing
protesters, why is she excluded from phone calls? And she is a democrat too.

But Obama should be contacted for something that can be handled at local government level.

But the Occupy movement has NATIONAL implications. Pretending it's just a local issue doesn't cut it. CAll the White House.

33. Now you can also complain to Obama about his flawed phone system.
If he's not busy later, he could fix it.

I am always amazed at what issues folks here expect Obama to personally remedy. No job too small for our magical Pres.
