Fast forward to 17:30 or so.

I'm just watching it now so I can't comment much but he does have a sign that says "I don't agree with the protestors but these people have a right to be here".

So no, he's not "one of us".

He's making some good points but I still think his presence openly carrying a firearm is detrimental to the non-violent message of the movement.

1. I don't know what you do with people like this.

We had a well-known local crazy LaRouchey at our protest last weekend who was carrying around a big Impeach Obama banner with the requisite Hitler moustache, etc. We certainly didn't want him standing on the corner with us, as he was doing, but as the officers said, he has a right to free speech, too.

Which is fine. I just wish he had taken it somewhere else. We don't need to be painted with this same brush.

3. The far right is making the most of the LaRouche nuts
and tarring the whole movement with "leftist antisemitism." I just smacked one of them on another board for doing this.

I understand the one in NYC is to be seen all over lower Manhattan, a daily fixture as he wanders around with his LaRouche signs, disgusting all sensible people.

4. Our guy got thrown out of the Alaska State Fair last year
for being a nuisance. I tried talking to him for a while, but it was pointless.

< AP >

In Atlanta, police in riot gear and SWAT teams arrested 53 people in Woodruff Park, many of whom had camped out there for weeks as part of a widespread movement that is protesting the wealth disparity between the rich and everyone else.

Mayor Kasim Reed had been supportive of the protests, twice issuing an executive order allowing them to remain.

Reed said on Wednesday that he had no choice to arrest them because he believed things were headed in a direction that was no longer peaceful. He cited a man seen walking the park with an AK-47 assault rifle.

"There were some who wanted to continue along the peaceful lines, and some who thought that their path should be more radical," Reed said. "As mayor, I couldn't wait for them to finish that debate."

Reed said authorities could not determine whether the rifle was loaded, and were unable to get additional information.< / AP >

Its like I've been saying all along. These open carry nut jobs showing up with long guns will cause the media and those critical of the movement to cast it in a violent light. It doesn't matter whose side these fools with rifles are on, they make it possible for the media to portray the movement as violent and threatening.
