'Glenn Beck': Party's Over for Democrats?

"Tea parties believe in small government. We believe in returning to the principles of our Founding Fathers. We respect them. We revere them. Shoot me in the head before I stop talking about the Founders. Shoot me in the head if you try to change our government.

I will stand against you and so will millions of others. We believe in something. You in the media and most in Washington don't. The radicals that you and Washington have co-opted and brought in wearing sheep's clothing — change the pose. You will get the ends.

You've been using them? They believe in communism. They believe and have called for a revolution. You're going to have to shoot them in the head. But warning, they may shoot you.

They are dangerous because they believe. Karl Marx is their George Washington. You will never change their mind."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,594343,00.html

..........

This cannot possibly be justified as acceptable political discourse. This is not merely an expression of opinion. It is not metaphorical. It is a call to arms. And Beck's audience is listening. They have heard him say that "The country will be washed with blood." They have heard him warn that he may have to speak in code:

(more)BECK: "I fear that there will come a time when I cannot say things that I am currently saying. I fear that it will come to television and to radio, and I will stop saying these things. Understand me clearly. Hear me now. If I ever stop saying these things, you will know why. Because I will have made a choice that I can only say certain things, and I haven't lost all of the rights. But know that these things are true. And if you hear me stop saying these things, it's because I can no longer say them to you. But hear them between the sentences. Hear them, please. I will be screaming them to you."

He should be taken off the air for the sake of any children who may see his violent rhetoric and decide that it's normal to act that way.

6. it bears saying
it's dumb to be blindly anti-Marxian. Marx and Marxian historians have a great description of history. The idea you need a violent revolution is not to be found in Marx -- in fact he said in America, it would only take an election.

Also, he was eloquent in his criticism of bureaucracy. He had more in common with anarchists and libertarians than with dictators and authoritarians. Remember the state withering away? Ever consider he might have meant that?

I'm not saying I think Marx is right. By rejecting Hegel and the idea reality begins with mind rather than matter he was blind to the power of propaganda and advertising to distort perception of need, and that blows up most of his equations. But it's childish and uneducated to dismiss Marx out of hand. As he would have wished, he just needs to be improved upon.

Could it be possible we'd be happier if we weren't a nation of sociopaths, narcissists, and other types of extreme individualists who are even so utterly afraid of not conforming? Could a bit of culture and sharing and helping each other just possibly be better? Or is that crazy talk?

7. Mind is an emergent property of matter
If you drop our computer 10 stories, it will no longer run any kind of OS. If you drop yourself 10 stories, your brain will no longer run the "wial" program (a highly complex result of the neurons you were born with and your entire life history).

"As you will learn on "Founding Fridays(sic)," this Friday, we're talking about James Madison. Here is what you will learn. The revolution of 1776 was a picnic compared to what the revolutionaries of today would like to do. It's not a lot of fun. Usually, millions of people die."

Millions of people die? The amount of FUD this guy smears on his audience is insane. This is clinical insanity.

"Boycott his sponsors". "His ratings will go down now". "He shouldn't be on the air".

yeesh.

Meanwhile his moranic listeners are threatening and killing people.

Just as the populace as a whole is drugged into inaction by too much reality TV, the rank and file of DU is drugged into inaction by believing that posting here is accomplishing something. I listened to Hartmann nearly every day for the last 8 years - every since ieamericaradio.com. The last few months I only listen religiously to Brunch with Bernie - the rest of the week I can take or leave. All we get are the same useless platitudes and endless arguments with right wingers that never accomplish a thing.

Sad waiting for the next avalanche of hand-wringing after the next step up in hate by the right wing.

41. Yo-o-u-u-u got it. I think the reasons few are "fighting back" are...
(1) there is no political party which can measure up to the GOP in terms of clarity, brevity and willingness to fight for principle (after all, if you don't know what you are fighting for, why fight?);

(2) many liberals/progressives are dragging around a rather vulgar understanding of non-violence and political passivity (an unseemly preoccupation with bullies and being bullied is an indicator of this); and

(3) most people (including MSM) are quite afraid of the far-right, and must maintain the fiction of false equivalency lest they too are accused of having a liberal, leftist, Socialist, COMMUNIST tilt.

For now the Far Right is content with MSM's shuck & jive "both sides are guilty" controlled show of False Equivalency. They will let all know when they wish to re-tool the debate.

65. What does "fighting back" mean exactly?
A constant, circular, hostile debate with morons?

For what purpose? To awaken the morons who listen to them and take them seriously?

Nothing anyone says will change their minds, so why bother?

There are more purposeful things we can do with our time and energy.

70. Don't worry: there is little "fighting back"...
as I said, how can you expect anyone to fight when there is little to fight for?

But if there was a party, movement, or some other organization whose goals and policies were amenable to millions of folks, then you would have a reason to "fight."

What you have said perfectly indicates why "fighting" in the present atmosphere of Right-Wing dominance is of little value. The "Left," has been jettisoned by the Democratic Party, by Obama, by MSM. In terms of political change, there is NO COUNTERVEILING FORCE to the Far Right. Now, if there were, then "fighting" would mean winning solid election wins and pushing your policies through government. This is standard stuff, not a matter of style or philosophical speculation.

You consider the other side "morons" who won't change their minds, and you can't be "bothered." Then what do you suggest should be done with "our time and energy?"

14. Inciting violence endangers the first amendment,
Edited on Tue Jan-18-11 10:56 AM by felix_numinous
and unstable people losing their temper with guns endangers our second amendment. These laws were made for responsible people.

I'm telling you--this is the goal of Murdoch and the corporate elite--they think that by proving Americans are too insane to have these rights, they WILL be taken away . Mark my words.

The crazy right has been artificially created. In every country there are isolated country people, rural folks who have very limited exposure to international affairs or affairs of state--and it is these folks who are the most easily manipulated to believe the most extreme ideas about people in faraway lands. In Iran it was the country folk who were employed to slay the kids in Tehran who were demonstrating--just one example---this is the way it is done---everywhere. We have to wizen ourselves to the ways our Nation is being molded into a new shape--intentionally.

The dumbing down of public schools, tax exemption and funding of the most extremist churches, and abuse of our media has destabilized our country. Destabilization has always been the goal of corporations, so they can loot and pillage that nation. We are in the midst of that. They would love no better than to incite actual violence and care not for our safety. They must be exposed for what they have done to countless other countries, and be exposed for what they are doing to ours!!

Until then, we have: Justice for the rich only (those who pay big contributions well).

And institutionalized looting for private MIC contractors.

63. That is a phrase most popular with many, if not most, of the local rightwing radio personalities.
or, its variant:

"If you were to put a gun up against my head, I'd choose the guy. Give 'em the first two first round picks this year. I don't care. But, put a gun up to my head, I'd do the trade."

Metroplex Michigan.

67. What do you do with Glenn Beck? Because FOX will not fire him.
He is their golden boy. The guy could have ALL of his sponsors pull out, and FOX would keep his show running for free.

73. he needs to be fired. telling people to shoot him & saying other people need to be shot is not
acceptable speech for a media personality.

if i said it at a public event, i would get a visit from local law enforcement -- at the least.
