SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A longtime friend says former Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern is feeling good and expects to be released soon from a South Dakota hospital where he's being treated for exhaustion.
Jack Marsh tells The Associated Press he spoke with the 89-year-old former senator Wednesday. Marsh is president and chief operating officer of the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute and a former Sioux Falls newspaper editor.
He says McGovern told him he'd "just been exhausted" but is "feeling good now."
Marsh says McGovern was flown to Sioux Falls, where his daughter lives, after being overcome with exhaustion an canceling a Florida speaking engagement. McGovern returned from a speaking tour in Europe less than a week before.
Marsh quoted McGovern as telling him: "'The problem is that I think I'm still 25."'
