35% blame Palin for Tucson shooting

The media focus on Sarah Palin's notorious crosshairs map does some lasting damage

Sarah Palin's response to Arizona shooting earned thumbs down from most Americans: survey

Sarah Palin's response to the deadly Arizona shootings fell flat with many Americans - including many of her supporters, according to a new poll.

Only 30% of those surveyed in a new ABC News-Washington Post poll approved of the way Palin responded to the deadly rampage, while 78% approved of the way President Obama handled it.

5. It's her own fault. She has no one else to blame.
Her "response" was repulsive.

8. You know....that's a good point. It may be that this guy didn't even know her
name. But when you play with matches...and others start playing with matches because of your example...and still others start playing with gasoline...and pretty soon there's a raging fire then even if you didn't start the fire yourself you are part of a problem AND YOU SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED WHEN PEOPLE START POINTING FINGERS AT YOU AND AT YOUR ARSONIST FRIENDS.

Maybe some of his friends were hopped up on Beck or Palin or Bachmann or Angle and they constantly advocated outrage and action. Don't know.

To me, the bigger point is not this shooter and this victim...the bigger point is that violent rhetoric can, has, and will lead to violence and it ought to be exposed. It is wrong.

6. I can't open the link to the 35% blame poll. If true, I would be amazed because
to actually blame Palin would require a severely harsh interpretation of Palin's actions. Wow. I personally think the RW is to blame for increasing the likelihood of a shooting through hate and fear and misinformation...I would have guessed most people would be willing to say that, but wouldn't have guessed they would want to place direct blame on one person, yet.

So, maybe...

...people are fed up with the RW hate and are willing to throw Palin under the bus for it regardless of direct link yet

...people heard the RW cry so much over a perceived Palin slight (a strawman built for victimhood) that they believed the accusation more than the denial. The RW over-reacted for sure...while blogs and internet were discussing blame, not many mainstream pundits, journalists, and officials were saying that. With Fox and others bringing up their perceived outrage 24/7, maybe people believed the accusation?

...the unknown bloggers on the left who compiled list upon list of RW violence and threats actually had a wider audience than we thought. While they didn't compile lists linking Palin to Loughner specifically, the case for RW irresponsibility is easy to make. Did half the nation go searching on crooks and liars and DU and KOS?

...the excuses that her map included 'surveyor's marks' and that the left is just as responsible for hate rhetoric was just too far out there to believe. These are clear lies, and if she clearly lies then she has no credibility and if she's not to be trusted then she's guilty of a whole variety of weird statements that people might remember. She's sinking and people are tying anchors onto her ankles

Still...I'd like to see a poll asking which party contributes MORE to hate, fear, threats, and misinformation...not just asking if Palin is to blame, because I think that's a strawman issue. That's the point.
