Remember that the Police Force is part of the 99%
Edited on Wed Oct-26-11 06:48 PM by fascisthunter
There are bad apples in the force, and the higher ups are the ones protecting them all. Many if not most give a damn. It would be wise for us not to allow the bad apples to further alienate us from the good guys with badges... divide and conquer. Through peaceful demonstrations we can prove to the rest that we are not what the 1% has paid it's pundits to say about us. They want us to hate the police force as a whole, so that the police force stays on their side. We already see the cracks.. the next step is to remain objective and not allow our emotions to take over.

Anyone who has seen my posts before know I am no apologist for the police force... I did lots of thinking and believe more and more police will take our side in time.

14. Well duhhh.. . That's why busting stoners is so popular..
It's damn near risk-free, unlike say stopping drunks on the highway.

Ask any cop how many times they've been attacked by a drunk and how many times by a stoner and watch their face.

5. I used to want to be a police officer but the things I've seen
during #OWS and other protests in the past make me glad I didn't follow that path. There were dozens of officers that stood behind that barricade looking at that injured vet and made no move to help him. Those same dozens stood by after an EXPLOSIVE device was thrown directly into the crowd attempting to help the injured man and did nothing afterward to help the man, nor did it seem they did nothing to the officer that illegally threw the device directly into the group helping the injured man. The police that did nothing, are just as complicit as the officer that threw the device.

I understand the sentiment of there are good cops and bad cops, and I mostly agree with that, but from the videos I've seen, there isn't one good cop in Oakland right now.

6. Well, dividing the authority from us all is what the 1% want
Edited on Wed Oct-26-11 06:52 PM by fascisthunter
I am just stating that we shouldn't see all cops as the bad guy. We do ourselves a disservice. I sincerely believe more and more people in law enforcement will come around.

Remember Egypt? Remember how some of the military objected to Qaddafi?

8. The cops in Oakland CHOSE to descend upon OccupyOakland
Just like law enforcement in Albany with the NYS State Police CHOSE not to evict OccupyAlbany.

They CHOSE to use those tactics.

11. I am not speaking of Oakland law enforcement involved
I am speaking of law enforcement as a whole. I totally understood that this thread was going to rub folks the wrong way. I understand the anger and frustration... go search my posts on police brutality... this is worth it, if I can reach just a few. Right now, my timing seems bad, but I truly felt it was the best time to say what I did.

19. The culture is toxic and the police uniformly see themselves as separate and above
the population. This being the case, I refuse to play the few bad apples game. The problems are systemic and they serve and protect the wealthy and the powerful along with self interest.

The police culture needs to be utterly destroyed and replaced with true peace officers and because even the "good ones" protect and stand with the "bad apples", they have earned a "let God sort them out" mentality unless they stand up for the people they are the oppressors.

22. I agree they are part of the 99%, but they also seem to be violent psychopaths.
It is not just a few bad apples, it is all of them. If it was just a few bad apples, the good apples would stop them.

26. Well it's really a pretty simple proposition
Whose side are you on? Cops have to make that choice too. Just like the rest of us. And it ain't enough just to say "make it fair and I'm OK with it". BECAUSE IT NEVER HAS BEEN AND NEVER WILL BE "FAIR". A few times in history for one reason or another (usually because of competition from a competing system) capitalism throws a few more crumbs from the table and that allows the working class to forget who the REAL enemy is. Now is not one of those times.
