10. Mayor asked before governor sent, though, I suspect.
I don't think the Governor usurped the mayor's authority; he responded to a request, if the report is true.

11. Jerry Brown was the mayor of Oakland. And now governor. I always liked him. But now I wonder.

13. It entirely depends on what they're kitted out with, Nadine. Quan can go fuck herself.
From everything I've read, she is responsible for this grotesque misuse of the Oakland police force.

If this is true, we'll both get a much clearer answer when we see what these soldiers are armed with, if anything. I just finished watching this http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x628861">this video of the '68 DNC riots and right in the opening of the video you can see a light machine gun set up on the ground as well as numerous armed and bayonetted troops. Obviously, times have changed, but if these boots are on the ground it's going to tell me a lot to see what they're armed with.

Unless they arrived much earlier in the day. That's just my hunch.

That mayor must be terrified by now. Her response to this crisis was ludicrious and insulting.

7. These twitter reports are often entirely wrong...
In this case, it is a little difficult to believe the national guard has been called. This protest does not require the military. Oakland has plenty of police and can easily get help from the surrounding area.

I suppose it is possible, but I think that would require Governor Brown calling them in and I just can't seem him doing that at this point.

22. I've only seen that tweet so far
After following the Libyan revolution on Twitter for months, I learned about rumors and waiting for confirmation and developed a sense of what stuff sounds too dramatic to be true. I'm taking it as unconfirmed until I see more tweets about it.

36. That would mean the state and Jerry Brown were involved.
I'd like to hear what some of the Oakland protestors have to say about the health and safety conditions at the protest site.

The LA site is very crowded, but those camping out are making an obvious effort to keep it presentable and clean.
