The Newest MSM Talking Point re OWS: |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-27-11 07:58 AM by Le Taz Hot
It's costing municipalities thousands and thousands of dollars to police the protesters. Here's a thought, let the protesters police themselves and use your municipal police force to go out and catch bad guys.
Anyway, I've heard this one echoed via CNN, MSNBC, HLN and all the local stations. How quickly they get the memos and how efficiently they spread the propaganda. Goering would have been proud.

And the whole "golly, the protesters were throwing bottles at the cops" without noting-- a few protesters were throwing bottles at the cops in full riot gear with shields-- which still did not warrant the chemical warfare and rubber bullets and batons.
And it is amazing how readily so many of us will accept the premise that if any of the protesters fought back with anything, that excuses massive police brutality.
I didn't think about that contrast until Lawrence O'Donnell interviewed one of the OWS protesters in Oakland. When he asked if they threw bottles, she pointed out quietly that yes they did, at police in full riot gear. And I've seen the full riot gear on lines of cops-- armor, helmets with face plate to protect them from the gases they use on protesters, and shields to deflect tossed objects. So I could picture what she was talking about.
I got mad at Ed Schultz buying into the MSM line about the protests "entering a new phase"-- no they aren't! They are still trying to remain nonviolent. It is the police that "entered a new phase" and I'm glad Laura Flanders was there to point that out.
If lines of police in full riot gear were not advancing to shut down the peaceful encampments, the municipalities would not be spending nearly as much as they are.
And we have seen right wing infiltrators brag about their exploits. Maybe it is those anti-OWS infiltrators that are "entering a new phase."

My daughter has been at the Oakland Occupy since it's inception. During the police riots we stayed connected through texts as I was watching the live camera feeds from news organizations. She did tell me some and I mean a few people threw plastic water bottles at the police but most of the flying water bottles were being tossed to people who got gassed and were trying to rinse their eyes out.

3. Yes, it is disgusting... |
|
I work at home and have various channels on in the background all day.
Yesterday on CNBC, Maria Bartaromo and some "reporter" had cross talk about the "one percent" that OWS is protesting. They discussed how the one percent is not just bankers--it's small-business owners, Hollywood stars (hint, hint--lefties), and even farmers.
In other words, we're so stupid--we're protesting the poor farmers in Iowa.
In other words, we're so stupid, we're protesting ourselves (lefty Hollywood actors).
Expect all kinds of lie-based memes out there. They can't stop OWS. Lies and propaganda are all they have.
If you really want to puke out a lung--listen to right-wing radio. They're carrying the rancid water for the corporatists who want OWS decimated with lies. Beck says OWS is anti-Semitic. He spends hours on this. All of right-wing radio is united in positioning OWS as dirty hippie types, criminals, Marxists and anti-Semitics. Right-wing radio says what the right-wing MSM cannot say.
They're attacking OWS at multiple angles--and it's all lies. Expect more of this. It's all they've got.

4. Occupy Tuscon has no police presence |
|
I'd be interested in finding out if they have had any increase in costs because of the encampment.
If there is none it proves our side correct.

5. Occupy Fresno has been peaceful as well. |

The police will stroll through every now and again but everyone has been really careful about cleaning up after themselves. Though, admittedly, our groups are MUCH smaller in size, but goddes love 'em, they're diligent.

Libertarian principles change with the wind. Corporations can police themselves entirely. Movements of the people apparently can't.

How about using the municipal police force to go out and round up capitalists and expropriate some ill-gotten gains?

19. Uh-huh. And do those same municipalities complain about policing sporting events? |
|
Hmmm...
Hell, I went to Party City a couple of days ago and there was a local cop inside next to the checkouts.
Why???
Of course, he looked like 19 and fresh out of the Marines, so I'm assuming he got rookie duty or something, but still, Party City with taxpayer-funded security???

21. I wonder if they will ever report how much the police spend patrolling corporate sponsored events |
|
I bet it is a hell of a lot more than they spend on the Occupy protests. I have seen police provide security at a number of businesses, but I have never heard the media publicize the cost of that.
