Good grief. Barbara Walters is carrying water for the billionaires this morning
on The View. She spent some time trying to humanize Bernie Madoff to the point that even Sherry called her on it. Then she's onto some bit she will be doing elsewhere on "billionaires who give back" after noting that one of them is the guy behind the Paul Mitchell hair products. She went on not to tell how he gives back but prefaced the tease with "look what he has" and proceeded with a brief tour of one of his many homes with tile floors from a 16th century Italian home and his antique restored railroad car. Barbara Walters has become the new Robin Leach, namedropping and besotted with ostentatious displays of wealth.

2. Walters gave up any pretense of being a serious journalist long ago
with her it's all about the glitz and glamour of celebrity.

3. I will make one comment - this man is in jail because he affected the wealth of the already-rich...
If he had affected the poor or middle class, he'd be out on the street, enjoying his life, like the rest of the mega-rich a-holes who have done harm to the poor and middle class.

Only if the very rich are affected, does anyone land in prison.

6. Right! Because the most important thing in the world is to make rich people richer.
Nothing else matters.

That is not hyperbole. That's a fact.

8. Exactly! Meanwhile I can't even count how many mega-rich hurt the poor and are running free
So really, why is Madoff even punished? Only because he hurt mega-rich people. End of story. According to the law, he cheated the wrong ones, huh?

5. that was the tone i got from the front pages of the tabloids in NYC today
Poor Madoffs tried to kill themselves because of the negative press and hate mail but failed.
Meanwhile NY Daily News had absolutely no mention of Oakland or Scott Olsen.

10. K&R #3 to expose her inveterate shamelessness. Oh, & e-mails don't work for her.
Despite her trademark whining and cloying fakery, she has the toughest dismissiveness of all criticism of her. It's like Shrub's, "Who cares what you think!1"

14. I think billionaires are her escorts to social functions.
Or for whatever else she needs. That's how they "give back" to society, by keeping Barbara Walters happy.

She was John Warner's regular date to "W" stuff during the Bush years.

18. If billionaires giving back was enough to solve the problems...
There would be no issue. Bernie Madoff is subhuman. But thanks, Babs, for pointing out how vast the chasm is between the rich and the poor!

Compare...

And contrast...

Thanks again, Babs... I get it now.

It was a mid-day public affairs show panel discussion that relayed real information.

She's been useless since then.

31. Is she an ''investor''? She's not on the list of clients...
Here's the list:

http://www.businessinsider.com/2009/2/bernie-madoffs-clients-the-official-list

I'm wondering if she got into the pyramid early and got out with much more than she took in as an unnamed member of an LLC or other partnership.

It's easy to come to that conclusion: Being a longtime loyal servant of the monied people, she now is doing her bit to "pay it forward."
