OSHA investigating trench collapse behind Somers school

http://www.lohud.com/article/20111026/NEWS02/110260363

The federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating the circumstances surrounding a trench collapse earlier this week behind the Somers Intermediate School where a worker was trapped for two hours.

-snip-

Wilmer Guerra, 29, of Brewster was trapped in a 3-to-5-foot-deep hole behind the Route 202 school for about two hours Monday afternoon when the trench he was working in collapsed. Guerra and one other employee of Lehtonen Construction of Lincolndale had dug the hole to repair a broken underground water pipe that feeds the school.

---------------

pipe work is dangerous work

water, sewer, gas, oil, chemical

surely there are Unions and adequate pay - how much of the work is slave work? do the private prisons have a hand in any of this, I wonder.
