Tired of working hard to provide for people who don't provide for themselves.
Hmmm.

Posted: 1:43 AM, October 27, 2011

The Occupy Wall Street volunteer kitchen staff launched a “counter” revolution yesterday -- because they’re angry about working 18-hour days to provide food for “professional homeless” people and ex-cons masquerading as protesters.

For three days beginning tomorrow, the cooks will serve only brown rice and other spartan grub instead of the usual menu of organic chicken and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, and roasted beet and sheep’s-milk-cheese salad.

“We need to limit the amount of food we’re putting out” to curb the influx of derelicts, said Rafael Moreno, a kitchen volunteer.

A security volunteer added that the cooks felt “overworked and underappreciated.”

7. maybe
But if you are homeless, is it reasonable to think that you might get a meal? granted, said homeless could also volunteer in the kitchens.

As far as those who get paid without work, I count the CEOS. Even if you work 12 hour days, nothing you do justifies being paid the equivalent of 100 of your workers.

18. Closer to 500 of your workers, actually.
Most European countries have a more equitable distribution of wealth where their CEOs "only" make around 100x their average employee. It's far less equal here.

8. as if anyone needs the New York Post to tell us that
I think every thinking person realizes the movement is made up of human beings, and there of course will be internal conflicts. It will be trivial for RW rags like the NY Post to selectively report on these problems to put the movement in a bad light. I don't see the purpose of taking such reports seriously or drawing conclusions from them.

21. Agreed
but just in case there are those who are complaining about helping the protesters,
then imo they should be escorted out conveniently. This is not a game and yes New
York post is known for demagoguery.

It is another wedge that is being used to unsteady their resolve. It smells wrong. Part of this story seems to be missing.

Not that there are not some homeless people trying to score food (the nerve of them, poor eating at a protest for the poor), not that the kitchen staff is NOT overworked (Hey Whole foods and Ben and Jerrys, time to earn your liberal stripes and donate food) but let us not forget the NYP is murdoch, and that his friends will try to divide the movement from within.

29. Need to know more about the NY Post? Sure, you do. Owned by Murdoch.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Post

"The New York Post is the 13th-oldest newspaper published in the United States and is generally acknowledged as the oldest to have been published continuously as a daily, although – as is the case with most other papers – its publication has been periodically interrupted by labor actions.<2> Since 1993, it has been owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, which had owned it previously from 1976 to 1988. It is the seventh-largest newspaper in the U.S. by circulation.<3> Its editorial offices are located at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, in New York City, New York. The Post is known for its sensationalist headlines."

.................that I'm kicking my children (ages 5, 4, and 18 months--and not a one of them has ever worked a day in his LIFE!!!) out into the street. Why should I have to spend my hard-earned money and time caring for 3 deadbeats who refuse to care for themselves? I say, "F 'em." You know, just like it says on the base of the Statue of Liberty. Being a right-wing mouth-breather, I'm not exactly sure what it says on the Statue of Liberty, but I'm sure it's something about, "Don't come here lookin' fer no free handout, ya bums."

34. Ex Cons are also flooding OWS
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/grubby_lowlifes_wvw3jSZRkqIIqJcio5xJaI

Newly sprung ex-cons and vagrants rousted from other parks are crashing the Occupy Wall Street protest, where gourmet meals are free and boozy, drugfueled parties are on tap, the movement’s leaders griped yesterday.

“They’re telling people who leave prison to go to Zuccotti Park,” lamented Daniel Zetah, a leader of the OWS community-relations group.

Volunteer Lauren Digioia, 26, said, “We have drug dealing going on here, gang activity, public intoxication. There are a lot of instigators. There are a lot of vultures.

“Everyone knows we give out free food and sleeping bags, and it’s a perfect opportunity for squatters.”

We can't really complain though and it pisses me off because if we do complain the repukes will just throw it in our faces that we're being selective in who we choose to care for.

2.) The movement isn't taken seriously

this is all moot as the source of the story is professional bullshit rodeo riders

provide for themselves. No handing out sleeping bags or anything else. The people who are genuinely protesting will do it without any freebies. I've said before and I'll say it again: just do this during the day, or the evening--there is no need to permanently camp out.

62. I'd heard about that. That said, these are different times, and this movement
isn't looking for a very tangible and concrete thing such as back-pay owed to them. I think they would have more staying power if they only were out there morning thru evening, (not overnight), at least through the winter. I expect that it will happen that way anyway in the north, because of unrelenting bitter cold. I don't think it weakens the effort one bit.
