Animals From Zanesville Farm To Be Taken Back By Thompson's Widow
ZANESVILLE, Ohio --

Officials say the exotic animals captured from a Zanesville farm are being taken back by the widow of the man who set them free before killing himself last week.

Officials at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium said Thursday they were notified by attorneys for Marian Thompson, the widow of Terry Thompson, of her plans to take back the six animals that were captured from at their farm in Zanesville.

Zoo officials said Marian Thompson said she would arrive at the zoo to pick up the animals at 2 p.m. Thursday.

........

Hard for me to grasp - I guess they are like "pets" according to the law and if you "own" them you can do whatever you want to. Just doesn't seem right for these wild animals to be held in that farm situation.

1. That is contemptible that anyone can own exotic animals.
It's utterly sickening.

2. This SUCKS. Those poor things are going to just get shoved back
into the little cages they were forced to exist in prior to the chaos.

3. Are they going to send her a bill for capturing them (and killing the others)?

IMO they should offer to absorb that cost if she relinquishes ownership of the animals.

4. Back into their filthy, inadequate cages. THAT'S real smart.

5. Here's Jack Hanna's response:
Edited on Thu Oct-27-11 01:12 PM by 1776Forever
"If they're going to be going somewhere, it's got to be someplace that's good, that's all. You know, it's not much to ask with what we've all been through. Of course, their attorneys are saying it's safe and ... now is the time to do it. I disagree with that. I'm still getting people calling me a killer and everything else up there. So to me, is it safe? I don't think so," Hanna said.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has been working with the governor’s task force to draft a framework for permanent legislation to enact stronger, enforceable Ohio laws restricting private ownership of exotic animals.

Hanna said that he hopes the legislation will be in place in four to eight weeks and that at that point, "Ohio is not going to be the place for a lot of people in this situation."

7. My guess is that there is
no sanctuary that has room to take them right now - the sanctuaries for exotic "pets" are overflowing.

8. I just heard an update in a radio news report that the animals would
NOT be handed over right away; they will kept in quarantine for now.
