MARINES TO OAKLAND POLICE: 'You Did This To My Brother'

" Marines around the world are outraged by the injuries inflicted by police on Scott Olsen at Tuesday's Occupy Oakland protests.

Olsen is in a medically-induced coma after getting hit in the head by a police projectile.

4. Don't fuck with the Marines
How many Marines come from families from the 1%? Hell, when was the last time you heard about any scion of a wealthy, privileged family joining the armed forces? I think the 1% just poked a sleeping giant.

I never thought about the possibility of Iraq vets turning against TPTB for sending them on a war for lies and stealing the future of their generation. Holy s*it. I never thought about the possibility of veterans in the street en masse.

what worries me is the born again dominionists in the USAF, they are dying to use nukes & I don't think they care on whom.

Also, that cop (the 1 who shot him in the head & then threw the grenade)will never be safe, anywhere ever.

Dude when your name & address is posted you will be safer in jail.

Anthony Bologna is scared for his life now, what this guy did is worse by many orders of magnitude, If I was his family I would leave him
for my own safety.

102. I'll second
As another Army vet from a previous military misadventure. I'll second that expression of support.I suspect the last thing the administration and the cops in Oakland want to face is a bunch of Marines righteously indignant about the treatment of one of their own plus the treatment of the country they volunteered to protect any any enemy foreign or domestic.

17. There will be a backlash.
Not sure how big, but big enough to probably make a difference. Whether a Marine is "right" or "left", they protect and stand for their own. I would imagine a lot of Marine vets will be taking to the streets for their brother. They'll be loud.

I just hope this young man comes through this okay. I can't imagine what it's doing to his family. Survives two tours in Iraq and gets beaned by a cop?

Semper Fi, to one of our own.

A group of Marines, in uniform, preferably armed (legally) to the teeth to the extent that the law allows,
showing up at the Oakland Police precinct that was responsible for this, and asking to have a private little

Do you think that maybe they'd get the hint?

59. Interesting comment later in the thread from that guy
I have to admit that I'm slightly ashamed that it took this happening to a Marine to elicit this emotion from me, but I can't change the past. For me, personally, it's not his veteran status -- it's his Marine status. A lot of us, in this thread, have tried to describe the bond that Marines feel between each other, but that description seems to lack the proper words in the English language. Had this happened to a civilian I would have, no doubt, been outraged -- but I doubt I would've had the same exact reaction.

Keep in mind that the veterans, like myself, who have served in Iraq (or Afghanistan or any other war zone) aren't the same people that decided we should be deployed there. We have our feelings, and we have our mission(s). When I was overseas that's just where I was -- and I tried to make the best of it, and do the best I could, every day. I wasn't there because of my political opinions; I was there because of the people that stood beside me -- and that is the bond that we all share with this young man.

62. Dont' feel ashamed now that you have it.
Edited on Thu Oct-27-11 08:40 PM by deadinsider
It takes different ways: sometimes rational, other times emotional.

It's the irony that purely encapsulates our time; that simplifies it for the unaware. It is absurd your brain tells you: I was trained against enemies, threats to 'our' way of life.

Then you find there are threats within...

I almost joined the Marines with a friend in the mid 90s. He went, I didn't.

Talking to him later, and being the pinko (communist) sympathizer that I am, I asked: when a revolution happens, would you shoot me if I was on the other side of the fence?

He said: "If I'm ordered to protect my country."

We didn't talk for a while. Talked a while back after he was deployed to Iraq.

Then fell out-of-touch again. I'm wondering what he feels about this shit.

Again: do not be ashamed that you only felt it now; in the end, we all get there somehow. With these fuckers, its inevitible.

rich fuckers went down to Balboa Hospital to see the wounded who were missing limbs? Some of them were hostile thinking that we (Harley riding veterans) were there to feel sorry for them. What do you do when they vent on you? You suck it up and cry when you are alone. Children missing limbs? They are fucking kids. We, and only we, are allowed to fuck with Marines or former Marines in any way, shape, or form. You who have not survived Recruit Training or OCS/TBS or in my case both, do NOT fuck with one of us. Only we are allowed to fuck with each other. I will sit on the sidelines and hope for the best no more. I must get involved actively besides sending money. I have to be careful because my wife is an active duty Naval officer. Unfortunately for us, she is of to Afghanistan next year. The vets here are pissed about this shit and hold the repukes responsible. Fuck you, you fucking conservative/tea bagging mother fuckers.

I apologize for venting.

73. Do Not Ever Apologize
We the American citizens, true citizens and patriots of our country do not want you to ever quit defending us. To stand up for what is real & right. We need you....we applaud you, we have your back. We also have your brother's back and as ordinary citizens we will forfeit our lives also if necesary.... now.....

It is time..

I learned how to type when I was sixteen years old by typing this...
Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country

It is more real than ever. I, in almost 10 years of being a member of DU, and saying little, want you to know that the time has come.

That was my sig line here on DU from 2002 until 1 year ago. It is the message that I've been trying to send since our country was overtaken in the coup of 2001.

Whether you want to believe it or not

That is the reality of the situation.

Convince your brother's and sisters.

I wish you... long life, success and peace. Do what is right.

This will be my last message on DU until it is okay again.

76. Thank you
Thank you for your service, thank you for venting, and thank you for everything.

I am reminded of a chant from Egypt - from before Mubarak stepped down, so before the current troubles with SCAF.

"The people and the army are one hand."

I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts.

69. Not With General Amos
He is the current Commandant and is a politician. He is the first aviator CMC. Usually the CMC is a grunt. We had little respect for him as a LtCol squadron commander.

This was the first I knew of the interview.

Given the fake anti-OWS photos that were posted, this looked like anti-OWS activity.

My apologies to Sgt. Gentile.

107. yeah, I knew a man in moab
highly decorated marine. He used to wear his purple heart as an earring. He was an older man, I knew he was down in central america and saw action in other places. Moab has a very diverse culture, with young and old back to nature hippies. He actually fit in quite well.
