What's the deal with this claim about an executive order re: Citizens United?
Edited on Thu Oct-27-11 09:05 PM by woo me with science
There are posts on GD and GD: P now, claiming that Obama is in the process of neutering Citizen's United with an executive order. They appeared around the same time, are authored by different posters, and have over 200 recs combined:

They link to an article from back in April, speculating about an executive order that Obama was "reported" to be drafting.

Nearly seven months later, I can't find any evidence that such an order was ever produced or signed.

What's the deal here? Is there any more recent information indicating that the President is about to take action on this?

What evidence do we have that this is even on the President's agenda at this point?

Thanks to anyone who can fill in the blanks here.

1. I don't think the President has the power to nullify a USSC decision by
Executive Order.

3. I don't think the claim was that it would nullify the decision...
...just that it would force some disclosure that otherwise would not be required.

But it was gaining massive recs, and I can't find any evidence that it's even on the President's agenda.

2. It has never been more than a draft.
Democrats like Steny Hoyer came out against it. It is likely shelved indefinitely. I don't know why it is popping up today.

4. Popping up in different OP's
from different posters, and getting hundreds of recs. That is why I was wondering if there was some news story from today to explain this.

I cannot find any evidence that this ever reached a point of being seriously considered or that it is even on the President's radar, much less his agenda, at all right now.
