Chicago traders taunt ‘Occupy Chicago’ protesters with ‘We are Wall Street’ leaflets
Someone in the Chicago Board of Trade dropped leaflets on top of “Occupy Chicago” protesters Wednesday afternoon as they rallied alongside unions in the city’s financial district.

“We are Wall Street,” the leaflet said. “It is our job to make money.”

“Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you’re only going to hurt yourselves,” it continued. “What’s going to happen when we can’t find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We’re going to take yours.

Do you really think we are incapable of teaching 3rd graders and doing landscaping?” the leaflet asked. “We aren’t dinosaurs. We are smarter and more vicious than that, and we are going to survive.”

While the group is protesting against the consolidation of economic and political power, they have not stated they want to abolish Wall Street. Their proposed list of demands includes specific policy changes, such as reinstating the Glass-Steagall Act, repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy and campaign finance reform.

Chicago Traders Mock Protesters: ‘We Are The 1 Percent Paying For This, You Are Paying For 1 Percent Of It’ | Today, demonstrators from Occupy Chicago continued to protest economic inequality, undeterred by the arrests of 175 of their members by the city for staying overnight in Grant Park. As demonstrators marched past the Chicago Board of Trade, financial traders above dropped flyers upon them that said, “We Are The 1 Percent Paying For This, You Are Paying For 1 Percent Of It.” Here are some snapshots of both sides of the flyers:

For the first time in their careers they'll be doing something useful.

5. All this over a mere 4.5% raise in taxes.
And maybe another 10% on Capital Gains. No one wants to destroy Wall Street, we just want it to be fair. Fairly taxed and fairly regulated. Make a zillion dollars, I don't care, just don't fucking rob everyone else to get it.

They make money off anything... CME trade commodities, mbs's, cds's, and stocks....You name it, they trade it.... And inflate the prices so that we pay more for their bonus's.

9. You make a good point
Edited on Thu Oct-27-11 09:59 PM by Cal Carpenter
They've basically bled the working class dry at this point, so they are abstracting the value of that labor by further commodifying money itself, to make more money off of money. (I'm too brain-fried at the moment to describe what I am trying to say very well, LOL)

Just another bubble to pop, and when it does the ensuing 'crisis' will be worse than the last, but not as bad as the next...

But the super-wealthy won't lose their homes or struggle to feed their families or go to the doctor.

Sigh.

27. Those stocks, mortgages, and bonds that underlie derivatives would be meaningless without labor.
If people are out of a job, they default on their mortgages, and that, in turn, makes plenty of those financial instruments that contain bundled mortages incapable of being valued.

10. They win when we lose
They make their money betting against us.

That is what they mean when they "buy low and sell high".

They get us suckers to buy their stock and then when it crashes they buy it back at pennies on the dollar.

When the 3.1 million of God's Children totally screw up and the ponzi scheme blows up in their faces we bail them out.

Fuck the 1%

17. The more of these psychopaths do landscaping, the better off we'll be.
They can survive all they want. I just don't want them to prosper.

And I don't fear a few thousand traders or a few tens of thousands of high-level financial executives entering the middle-class workforce.

1) It's a drop in the bucket; there are millions of people in the middle-class workforce.

2) Most of them will retire rather than take a 5-figure job.

19. (Sigh) They're just making it harder on themselves
People wouldn't be protesting if they didn't feel the need to become pornographically rich over the corpse of this country and 99% of its citizens.

So, they have every *right* to make ill humored attempts at mocking the protesters, and to bitch and moan over a situation of THEIR doing. But actions have consequences. Their reckoning is a question of when, not if at this point. Not if. They are only making things worse for themselves when the time comes.
