It's a divided nation, there IS NO SOLUTION. |

Edited on Fri Oct-28-11 12:45 AM by GSLevel9
We're talking like Sunni's and Shiites here...
I don't think this nation will EVER be united again. Conservatives hate Progressives and vice versa.
For a few decades in the 20th Century the differences between the parties were minimal with the obvious exception being the Democratic Party opposition to Civil Rights in the first 60 years of the 20th Century.
Today's situation is like 1861 in scale... if it weren't so difficult to break up this nation... I believe it could happen.
Solutions?

4. I talk to people pretty regularly... |

I don't know anyone in real life that agrees with me politically, the closest thing in my life to another liberal is a family member that likes Ron Paul..

7. I listened to an extended conversation between several people I know the other day.. |
|
Poor people, immigrants, the Federal Reserve, Gold Standard, buy guns...
The stuff you mentioned never came up.
There was so much misinformation and downright disinformation that I didn't bother to try and even start correcting anything.. My words are but a whisper and their deafness a shout.

2. The GOP Congress' 9% approval rating and OWS gives me hope |
|
These two things tell me the country isn't as divided as the media would have us believe.

Believe me, it ain't that bad. Years ago I used to fly down to California to work with highly educated Indians and Pakistani technicians on a project. Smart, charming guys. They could not stand each other because of the feud between their nations. One day, they got into a fight about who had the better fucking starch. I swear on my life I'm not making that up. I think it was the Pakistani flour versus the Indian rice or some shit like that. I thought they all ate motherfucking rice but I was smart enough not to bring that up for fear of uniting them against me.
We think Conservatives and Progressives are at each others throats and shit but, dude, we are two puppies roughhousing compared to some of the feuds that really go on on this planet. IMO.
Which is good, see, because one of the few things Conservatives and Progressives have in common is we're both getting fucked over by criminal corporate entities.
As far as a solution goes- we unite against and destroy the criminal corporate interests and go back to fighting over abortion, gay marriage, and whether it's OK to use Native American mascots for sports teams.

9. No it isn't. You are thinking of the extremes on both sides. |

A majority of Americans are not divided on the major issues which means it's not only NOT divided, it's Liberal. If you turn off the media and deal with RL you'll see that this is a myth. They want the country divided and they worked hard to keep it that way.
Tonight I saw Thom Hartmann interview a former a Teabagger, now a Coffee Party member who has joined the OWS movement.
TH asked him why he joined. He said that this is our country, all of us have to live here. And the movement is addressing issues that we agree on. He said they love this country as he does. The only thing he said we disagree on are which solutions will be the best to get us to where we all want to be.
He has been on TH's show as a Teabagger in the past. He said what is happening in this country today is way beyond Partisan Party Politics and he is so glad that this movement started.
He's not alone. Rush Limbaugh does not represent more than a tiny fraction of this country and all of these partisan hacks are losing their audience. People are waking up and there is a unity now with people focused on major issues that affect all Americans, that makes that kind of partisanship not even worth discussing.
I think you are wrong. Go to an Occupation near you if you can. I think it will give you hope.
