Styx tribute to the working man....Blue Collar Man.
<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV1v6FmB4P0>

Written by Tommy Shaw
Lead Vocals by Tommy Shaw

Give me a job, give me security
give me a chance to survive
I'm just a poor soul in the unemployment line
my god, I'm hardly alive
my mother and father, my wife and my friends
You see them laugh in my face
But I've got the power, and I've got the will
I'm not a charity case

I'll take the long night, impossible odds
keeping my eye to the keyhole
if it takes all that to be just what I am
well I'm gonna be a blue collar man

Make me an offer that I can't refuse
make me respectable, man
this is my last time in the unemployment line
so like it or not, I'll take the

long nights, impossible odds
keeping my back to the wall
if it takes all night to be just what I am
well, I'm gonna be a blue collar man

keeping my mind on a better life
where happiness is only a heartbeat away
paradise can it be all I heard it was
I close my eyes and maybe I'm already there

I'll take those long nights, impossible odds
keeping my back to the wall
all that to be just what I am
well I'm gonna be a blue collar man

do do do do do do do do do do do

you don't understand

do do do do do do do do do do do

I'll take those long nights, impossible odds
keeping my eye to the keyhole
if it takes all night to be just who I am

well, I'd rather be a blue collar
got to be a blue collar
gonna be a blue collar man

1. Don't forget Rush's Working Man
I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin'
Yes, I'm workin' all the time

It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess that's why they call me
They call me the working man

They call me the working man
I guess that's what I am

I get home at five o'clock
And I take myself out an ice cold beer
Always seem to be wonderin'
Why there's nothin' goin' down here

Well, they call me the working man
I guess that's what I am

4. Yes, Rush. Awesome sounds. Saw them myself too, 20+ times. They are coming to N.O. in June.

6. I don't really care for the song, but I applaud the sentiment.
That's not to say that I don't like Styx or Tommy Shaw. In fact, I really enjoyed Shaw's solo work.

7. Darn, I was going to follow up with the Rush tune, how about this instead...

Somedays won't end ever and somedays pass on by,
I'll be working here forever, at least until I die.
Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't
I'm supposed to get a raise week, you know damn well I won't.

Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
I'm taking what they giving 'cause I'm working for a livin'.

Hey I'm not complaining 'cause I really need the work
Hitting up my buddy's got me feeling like a jerk
Hundred dollar car note, two hundred rent.
I get a check on Friday, but it's all ready spent.

Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
I'm taking what they giving 'cause I'm working for a livin'.

Ooh, Workin' for a livin'
Ooh, taking what they giving
Ooh, Workin' for a livin'
Ooh, ooh

Bus boy, bartender, ladies of the night
Grease monkey, ex-junky, winner of the fight
Walking on the streets its really all the same
selling souls, rock n' roll, any other day

Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
I'm taking what they giving 'cause I'm working for a livin'.

Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
I'm taking what they giving 'cause I'm working for a livin'.
Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
