Lee blames police for violence at Oakland Occupy Wall St. protest

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) on Friday said the Oakland police overreacted to Occupy Wall Street protesters earlier this week and condemned the police tactics.

Lee, who represents Oakland, said she was “terrified” on Tuesday when police used tear gas on a group of Occupy Wall Street protesters camped in front of Oakland's City Hall. Police reportedly fired a series of rounds of teargas on a group of protesters who refused to leave.

“These are peaceful protesters who have a right to petition their government,” Lee said during an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

(snip)
“I from day one have fully supported the Occupy movement. I think it's about time that people hit the streets and raise the concerns of the 99 percent,” Lee said.

4. Yep. The Mayor Apologized and went to visit the wounded warrior.....
but I fear that this has left a deep stain on her new administration....
rightfully so.

8. Yesterday she said Oakland was a progressive city because
it has a lot of homeless and unemployed people. She's an idiot. She was also whining about how Oakland was being "perceived" in the media when she assembled an army to attack peaceful protesters, injuring tens and nearly killing at least one. She needs to resign.

3. True that....but that is Barbara Lee's district and she understands
Police Brutality, as it has occurred in her district perhaps more than too often.

She's my rep, and she is certainly reliable to do and say the right thing.
I don't believe there is anything she could ever do or say that would make
her remotely put her seat in jeopardy.

She is a class act!

6. She'll have something to say.......I'm sure.
I waited for Barbara Lee, and like I knew she would, she came through.
I think Sen. Boxer will do the same, as will Gov. Brown.
They may be making sure of the facts beforehand, which is not neccessarily
the worse thing to do. Them speaking right now or speaking tomorrow
won't change the damage done.....and the hurt brought upon by the OPD. :(
Personally, I don't think the mistake the Mayor made will replay....
she's in a hurt of trouble over this, and I think she finally got a clue
of just that.

7. When shall we expect Congresswoman Lee to visit Occupy
Oakland, Her main office is about 1/2 a block away from the plaza, on Clay Street. I bet she knows the way.

BTW I've voted for her in every election she's run and will continue to vote for her as long as she's running in my district.

thanks to the DUer who first suggested this, although your name has escaped my memory.
