Michael Moore responds to ‘hypocrisy’ criticism for supporting ‘Occupy’ protests
Source: Raw Story
By Eric W. Dolan

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore responded Thursday to accusations from conservative critics that he was a hypocrite for supporting the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations.

His critics claimed that he got “rich because of capitalism” and thus should not be protesting against inequalities in the economic system of the United States.

Moore told Current TV host Keith Olbermann that the argument was analogous to saying that he shouldn’t support same sex marriage because he never had sex with another man.

“I think what they are really worried about is that you or I, with money, are dangerous people because we can’t be bought,” he said.

1. Right wing and Moore
The right wingers should support people like Moore. If he and others like him duplicate their efforts in 2012, they can perhaps duplicate what happened in 2000.

2. Moore has a terrific gift
I'd be inclined to ignore the brainless yammering from the idiot class, but Moore has a deft touch for unzipping their little turd bags and spilling the contents back on them.

7. If you are looking only at money of course he is one of the 1% - we
made him that way when we bought his movies. We are missing a lot of supporters if we continue to reject so many people. For instance if I had to reject progressives legislators due to their party affiliation or money I would end up rejecting my own Senator Al Franken. Not all congresspersons are bad just because they happen to belong to a party. If I have to reject the help and even the interest of all Democratic congresspersons that would mean the only person in congress I could support would be Bernie Saunders. This criteria we are using is not smart.

8. no he isn't. he didn't get his money the way the superrich get theirs.
by gambling on Wall Street like a casino.

by lobbying and buying favours so they can get richer.

Piers Morgan tried to stiff Michael on this and it didn't work there either.

I have my issues with Moore, sometimes, but to ball him up with the kinds of people that put the whole economic system around the world at risk is just a little, how you say, dumb?

9. if you believe that earning more than $x/yr disqualifies anyone from being a decent person,
you're completely missing the point.

the occupy movement is not about definine an absolute, bright line between every single people in the lower 99% of income levels and every single person in the top 1%, a fence that might put two people separated by a penny on opposite sides. that's pointlessly simplistic.

is warren buffett a "hypocrite" for calling for higher taxes on the rich?
is bruce springsteen a "hypocrite" for singing about the poor and down-trodden?

a few people have managed to keep their feet firmly on the ground despite reaching lofty income levels.
it take a certain amount of character and effort, but it can be done.

i think it's pretty safe to put people like olbermann, moore, and springsteen on our side despite their incomes.
buffett is a mixed bag. he has a few quite decent views, but he's certainly a greedy and explotative capitalist as well. so i'd put him in the 1%, though he's certainly not as bad as the kochs or the wal-brats.

6. Once again Moore exposes the hypocrisy of the "Christian" right.
Edited on Fri Oct-28-11 12:46 PM by Gold Metal Flake
Moore added that he was taught growing up that God would judge him based on how he treated the least well off.

“If you do have good fortune smile upon you, you have to do even more,” he explained. “So you have a greater responsibility to support those who are have-nots.”
