27 assault counts for handshake. The attacker of the Gay student who was beaten 0 counts.

Snip< Earlier in October, Prep Rally brought you the story of a disturbed high school football player in Ohio, who pricked the hand of 28 opponents in the postgame handshake line following his team's victory, which he didn't play in.

Snip < Now the 16-year-old officially knows just how much trouble he's in … and it looks like it's a lot. According to the Associated Press, via the Washington Court House Record Herald, the teen in question is being charged with 27 counts of assault in connection with the puncturing of 28 players' hands. There was no explanation of why the now-former Washington Court House (Ohio) Washington High player was charged with 27 counts as opposed to 28.

The attacker of the Gay student received 3 days suspension. These two cases are in the same state and it show how badly Ohio protects Gay students from hate crimes.

8. So only 27 players risked blood-borne infection ... hence the 27 counts?
 (I can't read the DA's mind, I'm just guessing.)

2. Misleading title. It wasn't "for a handshake". It was for sticking a tack into their hands,
drawing blood, and forcing everyone to get tetanus shots.

3. Schools don't issue criminal charges. Did the victim of the beating press charges?

6. Not to mention whoever filmed it KNEW it was going to happen.
Combined with the earlier Facebook posts . . . I'd say this is a good case for pre-meditated assault.

12. Not necessarily
It was a cell phone video. The camera person could have figured something was going to happen and started recording.

7. The prosecutor has the option not to press charges.
I agree that it was caught on tape but they could still decline to prosecute.

9. Unrec for misleading title.
There is a big difference between a "handshake" a pricking the opposing players.

10. Agreed and unrec for same reason. I understand the concern
of apparent disparity, but there is no doubt the 'handshake with a tack' stunt was assault, in this day of HIV.

11. Totally aside from any questions of unequal sentences...how was he able to get through all 28 guys?
Wouldn't the first few people be pissed off and reacting enough that guy 6 or 7 would be like, "Uh, how 'bout no?"
